Hollywood superstition runs deeper than many fans might think, with actors often resorting to various rituals and good-luck charms to sway the odds in their favor before important auditions. Few revelations, however, are as unexpectedly charming as this one, especially from someone currently portraying a witch on screen.

Maisie Williams has carved out a niche for herself by playing characters with sharp edges and resilience, from her breakout role in ‘Game of Thrones’ to her latest performance in the eagerly awaited ‘Practical Magic 2.’ Interestingly, her own connection to magic goes beyond the script.

During the film’s European premiere this week, Williams shared a candid story about her past efforts to manifest career success. She revealed to British Vogue that she once hired an “Etsy witch” to assist her in landing a movie role, following specific nightly instructions provided by the online spellcaster.

Despite her dedication to the nightly ritual, Williams humorously admitted that the spell failed to produce the desired results. “It didn’t happen!” she joked, reflecting on the experience with the self-aware humor that has become her trademark during press events.

This admission carries a layer of irony, considering her current professional standing. In ‘Practical Magic 2,’ she portrays Antonia Owens, one of the two grown daughters of Sandra Bullock’s character, taking over a role originally played by child actress Alexandra Artrip in the 1998 original.

Joining Williams is Joey King, who plays her onscreen sister Kylie Owens, as the sequel introduces the next generation of witches, continuing the Owens family legacy alongside the returning characters played by Bullock and Nicole Kidman. The film, based on a later installment of Alice Hoffman’s book series, also features Lee Pace as a love interest for Sally, with Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod rounding out the new cast.

While Williams may be skeptical about the effectiveness of online spellcasting, she has reportedly acknowledged that she still holds onto certain superstitions, suggesting that her relationship with magic and manifestation is not entirely dismissed despite this particular attempt not yielding results.

‘Practical Magic 2’ signifies a notable creative reunion, with Susanne Bier directing from a script co-written by Akiva Goldsman, who also contributed to the original film, alongside Georgia Pritchett. Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing are both reprising their roles as the quirky Owens aunts, providing longtime fans with familiar faces to enjoy alongside the new cast.

The London premiere also turned into a fashion highlight, with Williams turning heads in a custom outfit inspired by one of Bullock’s vintage red carpet looks from years ago, further connecting the film’s original stars with its newest cast members.

With ‘Practical Magic 2’ set to hit theaters exclusively on September 11, fans will soon discover whether Williams’ witchy character fares better with magic than she did in real life. Regardless of whether an Etsy spell ever works out for her, it’s clear that Williams isn’t shy about poking fun at her own past attempts at manifestation.
