‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set to Break Box Office Records Again
Superhero films seldom remain quiet for long, yet few have dominated a summer like Sony and Marvel’s latest web-slinging blockbuster. Since its July 31 release, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has consistently rewritten the domestic box office record book, showing little sign of slowing down.
Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as Spider-Man, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and featuring Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Jon Bernthal, opened with a staggering $360 million weekend, surpassing even ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ The film has steadily climbed the all-time domestic charts, breaking milestone after milestone that once seemed unattainable for a modern comic book movie.
Now, the film is approaching its next significant benchmark. According to updated Friday figures, ‘Brand New Day’ earned $5.5 million domestically, a remarkable 96% increase from Thursday, positioning it to become the fastest film ever to surpass the $900 million mark at the domestic box office.
This would mark another incredible achievement for a film that has consistently outperformed legendary competition. ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ is the only film to have ever surpassed $900 million domestically, achieving this feat in 50 days back in 2015, while ‘Brand New Day’ has been ahead of that pace since its early days in theaters.
The film’s box office trajectory has been impressive from the outset. It became the fastest movie to reach $700 million domestically, accomplishing this in just 13 days, and then went on to become the fastest to hit $800 million in 19 days, surpassing both ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ on the all-time domestic chart.
Globally, the figures are equally remarkable. ‘Brand New Day’ has already crossed $2 billion worldwide, making it the eighth film in history to reach that milestone and Sony’s highest-grossing release ever, exceeding ‘No Way Home’s $1.9 billion global total.
Much of this momentum can be attributed to strong audience turnout well into its fourth weekend, an unusually long tail for a summer blockbuster that typically sees front-loaded earnings. Industry analysts have also noted counterprogramming advantages, as the film continues to generate impressive numbers even with new releases entering the market.

There are also rumors that an expanded theatrical cut featuring additional footage could be released over Labor Day weekend, potentially giving the film another box office boost as it pursues the $900 million milestone and beyond. Regardless of whether this extended version materializes, ‘Brand New Day’ has already established itself as one of the biggest theatrical events in years.
With a production budget of $225 million and a cast led by Holland, Zendaya, Sink, and Bernthal, the film’s commercial success adds another chapter to Spider-Man’s legacy as one of Hollywood’s most bankable franchises. If the current pace continues, ‘Brand New Day’ is set not only to surpass ‘The Force Awakens’ to $900 million but could also redefine what’s achievable for a modern theatrical release altogether.
