‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Star Frankie Muniz Celebrates First Major Pro Race Win
Child stars often find it challenging to step away from Hollywood, but Frankie Muniz has successfully forged a new path. After years in the spotlight, he traded sitcom sets for racetracks, pursuing a dream that diverged from acting.
Best known for his role in ‘Malcolm in the Middle,’ Muniz transitioned from being a familiar face on television to chasing a career in professional motorsports. This journey has not been easy, as he has spent years competing in lower-tier series while occasionally returning to acting to support his racing ambitions.
After nearly two decades of hard work, Muniz has finally achieved a significant milestone with his first major professional racing victory. Driving a Ford Mustang for TechSport Racing alongside co-driver Tyler Stone, he secured the win in the GT4 America Series’ Am class during a race at Road America.
The victory was an emotional moment for the actor-turned-driver, who expressed his feelings in a post-race interview with Motorsport.com. “I’m emotional because I’ve honestly had two of the worst weeks of my entire life, to be honest,” he said. “I came here, really low. Had a good day yesterday, and felt really good today so to get this win is just — Thank you God, my team, Ford. This is unbelievable. I feel so incredible.”
He also acknowledged his co-driver’s contribution to their success, saying, “I’m so excited for Tyler, he drove so good. This is amazing,” as the reality of the win began to sink in.
This victory marks a significant achievement in Muniz’s long and often challenging journey through the motorsports world. He has spent recent seasons competing full-time in NASCAR’s Craftsman Truck Series for Team Reaume while also participating in the GT4 America championship, a demanding schedule for any driver, especially one who grew up on a soundstage.
Muniz’s racing experience dates back further than many fans may realize, with participation in the ARCA Menards Series, ARCA Menards Series East and West, and even NASCAR’s Xfinity-adjacent O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. Despite numerous competitive starts, a marquee win had eluded him until this moment at Road America.
He has openly discussed the difficulties of balancing his acting career, including a return to his iconic role, with the rigorous demands of racing. This juggling act has made victories like this one feel especially rewarding.
Moreover, this win comes at a time when Muniz is gaining recognition in the racing community on his own merits, rather than merely as a former child star. His consistent participation across various national series has helped him earn credibility among fans and fellow competitors.
For a driver who has dedicated two decades to achieving this dream, the emotions felt in victory lane were entirely justified.
