Few Netflix originals have become a true global sensation like ‘Lupin’, the French heist drama that transformed Omar Sy’s modern-day gentleman thief into one of the platform’s most cherished exports. Drawing inspiration from Maurice Leblanc’s classic Arsène Lupin character, the series has built its reputation on intricate cons, family dynamics, and Assane Diop’s remarkable talent for escaping seemingly impossible situations.

This reputation is set to be challenged in a brand-new way. Part 3 concluded with Assane making the tough decision to surrender to the police to protect his wife, son, mother, and closest friend, leaving him incarcerated for the first time in the series’ history as the season ended on a cliffhanger.

Netflix has unveiled the first look at Part 4, and the visuals suggest that Assane’s time in prison is about to take an unexpected turn. The new image depicts Assane seated inside a chilling glass enclosure at the heart of a stark holding facility, surrounded by armed guards, a striking visual that indicates just how high the stakes have risen since his surrender.

Part 4 will feature eight 45-minute episodes, making it the longest installment in the show’s history, surpassing Part 3’s seven-episode run. Omar Sy returns as Assane Diop, joined by Ludivine Sagnier as Claire, Antoine Gouy as Benjamin Ferel, Soufiane Guerrab as police inspector Youssef Guédira, and Shirine Boutella as Sofia Belkacem. Newcomers Théo Christine and Laïka Blanc-Francard will also join the cast, although their roles remain undisclosed.

Sy has expressed his ongoing excitement about reprising the role, noting that the character never ceases to feel fresh. “I often say that Lupin is an extraordinary plaything,” he shared. “I find great joy in it every time,” according to comments shared with Netflix’s Tudum.

The interval between Part 3 and Part 4 marks the longest wait between seasons in the show’s history, with production reportedly commencing in May 2025 to allow ample time for both filming and post-production. This extended timeline was described as a deliberate decision by Netflix, Gaumont, and Carrousel Studios to elevate the show’s creative ambitions, aligning with the unusually intricate prison setup hinted at in this new first-look image.

Notably absent from the confirmed returning cast is Etan Simon, who portrayed Assane and Claire’s son Raoul throughout the first three seasons. It remains uncertain whether his character will play a role in the new episodes. With Part 3 having left Assane’s old rival Hubert Pellegrini seemingly still manipulating events from a neighboring cell, the door is wide open for Part 4 to pick up right where that unresolved tension left off.

Since its debut in 2021, ‘Lupin’ has consistently ranked among Netflix’s most successful non-English-language series, reaching tens of millions of households within its first month alone. With Part 4 set to premiere on October 23, fans finally have a specific date to mark on their calendars after years of anticipation to see how Assane navigates his most confined predicament yet.
