‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Reshoots Conclude as Scarlet Witch’s Return Seems More Likely
Marvel Studios has kept fans on their toes throughout 2026 regarding the cast of ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ and the speculation has only grown as the film’s extensive production nears completion. Originally, principal photography wrapped in September 2025, but insiders have hinted for months about a substantial round of additional photography still to come.
This additional photography evolved into a lengthy process, with reports over the summer indicating that new scenes were being filmed for characters who were notably absent from Marvel’s initial cast reveal. Names like M’Baku, Sam Wilson’s Captain America, and even the possibility of Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye returning surfaced as the reshoots extended into late August.
Now, a new update from MCU Film News, citing insider Daniel Richtman, suggests that these reshoots have wrapped up, reportedly including scenes with Scarlet Witch, Sue Storm, and other characters. This is the strongest indication yet that Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff may indeed play a role in the film, a rumor fans have been eager to confirm for weeks.
Wanda’s fate has been one of the most significant mysteries surrounding ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ since her apparent demise in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.’ Speculation intensified after Olsen’s stunt double, Jennifer White, was spotted on set in an outfit reminiscent of her Multiverse of Madness costume, alongside cryptic Instagram posts suggesting Wanda’s return.
Fan theories have emerged, with some suggesting that Doctor Doom, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr., might be manipulating Wanda’s powers, while others speculate a variant of the character linked to the X-Men could make an appearance. Although none of this has been confirmed by Marvel, the completion of reshoots involving Scarlet Witch lends credibility to the idea that she will appear in some capacity.
Sue Storm’s involvement in the reshoots is less shrouded in mystery but equally captivating. Vanessa Kirby’s Invisible Woman has been rumored to share scenes with Tenoch Huerta’s Namor, drawing from the classic Namor-Sue-Reed love triangle in the comics, with leaked set images reportedly showing them together in a desert setting.
With the reshoots now reportedly completed, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ enters its final post-production phase ahead of its release on December 18, 2026. The film has already faced a delay, moving from its original May 2026 date to allow the Russo Brothers to finalize the story, while its sequel, ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ is scheduled for December 2027.
The overlap in production has not been easy. Reports throughout August indicated that Marvel was juggling two productions simultaneously, with ‘Secret Wars’ filming expected to commence around the same time as Doomsday’s additional photography. This tight schedule makes the reported wrap of reshoots even more crucial, as it allows the extensive cast and crew to shift their focus to the sequel.
For a film centered around heroes colliding across three different universes, including the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the returning ‘X-Men’ cast, every update about reshoots carries significant weight for fans eager to know who will make it to the final cut. The inclusion of Scarlet Witch and Sue Storm in these final scenes suggests that Marvel is still fine-tuning how its biggest crossover yet will unfold.
Marvel has yet to officially confirm any details regarding these reshoots, and the studio has kept most plot specifics under wraps. However, with filming reportedly concluded, attention will likely shift to trailers and marketing as December approaches.
