New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ TV Spot Highlights Doctor Doom’s Transformation
Marvel Studios has ramped up its promotional efforts for the latter half of 2026, releasing trailers, D23 exclusives, and Comic-Con footage at a rapid pace, emphasizing the significance of this December release. With ‘Avengers: Endgame’ concluding the franchise’s last major team-up seven years ago, the pressure to make ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ feel like a true event has influenced nearly every aspect of its marketing.
The campaign has prominently featured one character in particular. Robert Downey Jr.’s transformation from Tony Stark to Doctor Doom has been central to the promotional strategy, with Marvel gradually unveiling more of his character through a series of teasers, a full trailer, and a special D23 preview narrated by Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm, who warns the assembled heroes of the threat Doom now poses.
This approach continues with a brand new TV spot for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ providing another look at Downey’s villain ahead of the film’s theatrical release on December 18. The brief clip maintains a tight focus on Doom, aligning with Marvel’s strategy of allowing the character’s menace to drive the marketing while avoiding too many spoilers about the larger ensemble conflict.
Much of the excitement surrounding ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ arises from the novelty of seeing Downey, who built a legacy as Iron Man over eleven films, take on the role of the MCU’s next major antagonist. This shift is a significant gamble for Marvel, as it challenges longtime fans to root against, or at least fear, an actor they have celebrated for over a decade.
The D23 trailer capitalized on this tension, featuring Kirby’s Sue Storm stating she knew Doom was lost but hadn’t realized how completely he was broken, while Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic confronted him among the ruins and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor warned that Doom would be “begging for hell” before facing him. Marvel has utilized this emotionally charged footage across various promotional materials, including reworked visuals in the latest spot that build on content first revealed at Comic-Con.
‘Doomsday’ marks Marvel’s 39th mainline film and its most extensive crossover yet, uniting the core Avengers lineup with the cast of ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps,’ the ‘Thunderbolts’ ensemble, and notably, several legacy X-Men actors making their official MCU debut following Disney’s acquisition of Fox. This combination provides directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who previously directed ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ with an ensemble even larger than that of their record-breaking predecessors.
Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers, alongside Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter, adds another emotional dimension to the film’s marketing. Both actors hinted at D23 that their ‘Endgame’ happy ending may not be as settled as it appeared. This tease, combined with the ongoing mystery surrounding Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s rumored involvement, has kept fan speculation running high throughout the promotional cycle.
With ‘Avengers: Endgame’ also set for a theatrical re-release next month to remind audiences of the previous storyline, Marvel is clearly positioning December 18 as the culmination of a carefully orchestrated lead-up rather than just another blockbuster release. As the countdown to theaters continues, fans can expect even more Doom-centric footage before the film finally debuts.
