Fans of Glen Powell who are eager for news about ‘Chad Powers’ Season 3 may need to temper their excitement, as the show has yet to complete its confirmed second season. Nevertheless, the buzz surrounding this sports comedy is so strong that many are already speculating about what might come next.

Hulu recently announced that the comedy series led by Glen Powell has been renewed for a second season, sparking fans’ imaginations about the future of the South Georgia Catfish.

Powell will reprise his role as the titular character in the upcoming episodes. The football comedy was co-created by Powell and Michael Waldron, with contributions from Eli and Peyton Manning.

The renewal announcement came just over a month after ‘Chad Powers’ aired its Season 1 finale on October 28. The series debuted on September 30 and follows Russ Holliday, a promising quarterback whose college career takes a hit after a critical mistake in the national title game.

The show is inspired by the ESPN and Omaha Productions segment ‘Eli’s Places,’ where Eli Manning donned prosthetics to audition for Penn State as a walk-on. In the scripted version, Russ attempts a similar ruse eight years later, reinventing himself as the quirky Chad Powers for another shot at success.

Currently, there has been no official word on a potential ‘Chad Powers’ Season 3, which is understandable given the show’s timeline. Season 2 is set to premiere this fall, meaning audiences haven’t even had the chance to experience the next chapter before discussions about a third season can realistically begin.

However, Hulu clearly sees potential in this project. Despite Season 1 receiving mixed reviews, with a 59 percent approval rating from critics, audiences embraced it with an 83 percent approval rating, which likely contributed to the show’s renewal. This disparity often indicates a dedicated fanbase, the kind that keeps shows alive through multiple seasons.

Until Hulu makes any formal announcements, fans will have to wait and see how Season 2 performs and whether that enthusiasm translates into another season.

To understand why fans are already looking ahead to Season 3, it’s essential to consider the dramatic conclusion of Season 1. Russ takes a final gamble to revive his football aspirations by disguising himself as Chad Powers, a quirky character who joins the struggling South Georgia Catfish team.

The first season introduced Russ Holliday as a disgraced football player who gets a second chance by going undercover as Chad Powers. In the finale, his true identity is partially revealed, creating unresolved tension that leads fans to speculate about the potential for more seasons.

The six-episode run of Season 1 concluded with Ricky discovering that Chad’s real identity is Russ, but she ultimately chooses not to expose him to the rest of the Catfish. This decision sets up a ticking clock for Season 2, as Russ knows his secret is only safe as long as Ricky keeps it.

The plausibility of a ‘Chad Powers’ Season 3 is bolstered by the creative team’s comments about the show’s future. Powell shared with The Hollywood Reporter that he has always envisioned a broader arc for Chad’s journey should the show continue.

“The reality is there’s a lot more story to be told. There was a construction early on for an arc of what the Catfish would look like. So we have a beginning, middle and end in mind. But people have to tune in and show us they want to see it. We believe in this show. I believe we have a hit show here and one the world’s really going to love,” Powell stated.

He also mentioned that if the show is fortunate enough to have a second season, there are exciting plans in store. This kind of long-term planning suggests that the creative team is not just focused on one season at a time, which naturally fuels speculation about where a third season could take Russ and the Catfish.

Series creator Michael Waldron has hinted that protecting Russ’s true identity from being revealed will remain a central challenge moving forward, indicating that there is plenty of dramatic potential even beyond the next set of episodes.

As Season 2 approaches its fall release, the pressing question is whether the South Georgia Catfish can attract enough new viewers to make a third season a certainty for Hulu, and fans clearly have opinions on whether Russ deserves an extended run under his disguise.
