When You Can Stream ‘The End of Oak Street’ Starring Anne Hathaway
This summer’s box office was filled with flashy sequels and franchise hits, but one standout came from an unexpected source: a suburban family unexpectedly transported back in time to confront dinosaurs. This unique premise combined ambition and risk that few studios dare to explore outside established franchises.
The creative gamble was taken by Warner Bros. and Bad Robot with ‘The End of Oak Street’, written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, known for ‘It Follows’, and produced alongside J.J. Abrams. The film tells the story of a suburban neighborhood mysteriously sent to the prehistoric past, forcing its residents to survive alongside creatures they were unprepared to face.
Now, just weeks after concluding its theatrical run, the film is set to make its way into homes. ‘The End of Oak Street’ will be available for digital streaming starting September 15, providing an opportunity for those who missed it in theaters to catch up on one of the year’s most inventive sci-fi survival tales.
The film grossed approximately $115 million worldwide against a production budget estimated between $80 and $92 million, a solid outcome for a movie that opened to mixed box office results. It debuted domestically with $21 million, landing in third place behind ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and ‘The Odyssey’ during a particularly competitive late-summer weekend that also featured the animated ‘PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie’.
Despite a challenging opening, the film gained momentum through positive word-of-mouth, eventually achieving a 76 percent audience score based on over 2,500 reviews. Viewers particularly appreciated the chemistry between Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, whose portrayal of a family navigating both prehistoric threats and internal conflicts became a highlight of the film.
The cast also features Maisy Stella, Christian Convery, and Jordan Alexa Davis, completing the family at the heart of the story. Behind the scenes, the film boasts a score by composer Michael Giacchino and visual effects from Industrial Light & Magic, focusing on creating detailed, character-driven dinosaur designs rather than relying solely on spectacle.

In addition to the digital release, physical media enthusiasts will need to wait a bit longer, as 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD editions are set to be released on November 3. Both digital and physical versions will include bonus content that delves into the film’s production, featuring a behind-the-scenes look at Mitchell’s approach to merging genre thrills with family drama, as well as a dedicated featurette on ILM’s dinosaur design process.
For a film that entered a crowded late-summer market facing tough competition from established franchises, ‘The End of Oak Street’ managed to achieve a respectable box office performance while fostering positive audience reception that often extends a movie’s life beyond its theatrical run. Whether this goodwill translates into strong digital sales or sparks discussions about a potential sequel remains to be seen.
With home viewing just around the corner, audiences who missed the theatrical release will finally have the chance to discover what all the prehistoric excitement was about.
