Daryl Dixon has become one of the most enduring characters in modern television, with his journey spanning over a decade and a half across various series in the expansive ‘Walking Dead‘ universe. Norman Reedus first introduced this crossbow-wielding survivor in 2010, and after guiding him through the original series and into his own spinoff, this remarkable journey is nearing its conclusion.

This conclusion is set to unfold in Season 4, which AMC has officially confirmed as the final chapter of ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’. This announcement marks the end of a spinoff that debuted in 2023, following Daryl on an unexpected adventure through Europe after being separated from his home and loved ones.

Norman Reedus shared his thoughts on this milestone, expressing gratitude for the fans. “Daryl Dixon has been an incredible journey. I thank each and every fan who has joined us on this ride,” Reedus stated. “It’s been a privilege to build this story for these characters, and we have so much gratitude for how it’s been embraced. Your love and support have made every moment worth it.”

After wrapping production, Reedus reflected on the final day of filming with an emotional social media post. “Daryl Dixon’s final episodes are coming 2027! I can’t quite believe we’re here,” he wrote, adding, “We’ve gotten a lot of bruises, scars, and concussions along the way. A lot of hard work went into this series, especially the crews. This last chapter is gonna hit different and hit hard.”

The final season will reunite Reedus with Melissa McBride, who reprises her role as Carol Peletier for Season 3 after her absence in earlier episodes. Creator David Zabel revealed that the last eight episodes were filmed in various locations across Spain, including Madrid, Bilbao, Galicia, Andalucia, Segovia, and Toledo, continuing the show’s tradition of utilizing real European settings to enhance its post-apocalyptic narrative.

The decision to conclude the series was first announced during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2025, prior to the Season 3 premiere. This year’s Comic-Con provided additional updates, with executive producer Scott M. Gimple stating that the final season is set to air sometime in 2027, although AMC has not yet confirmed an exact premiere date.

The 2027 release window represents a delay from the initially planned 2026 premiere, which disappointed fans eager for a quicker resolution to Daryl and Carol’s storyline. However, this delay ensures that AMC maintains its impressive 17-year streak of releasing new ‘Walking Dead’ content annually since the franchise’s inception in 2010, a legacy that continues thanks to the sister spinoff ‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’, which is still actively producing episodes.

In addition to concluding Daryl and Carol’s specific arcs, Gimple has hinted at broader aspirations for the character within the franchise, including potential future interactions between Daryl and Rick Grimes. AMC Studios President Dan McDermott has also indicated that discussions are ongoing about Reedus possibly returning to the role in the future, keeping the door open even as this chapter comes to a close.

With eight final episodes completed and a 2027 release window confirmed, fans will need to wait a bit longer to discover how Daryl and Carol’s tumultuous journey back home ultimately concludes.
