‘American Horror Story: 13’ Reveals Evan Peters’ Chilling Return as Tate Langdon
‘American Horror Story‘ has established its identity through constant reinvention, with each new season typically introducing a fresh cast of characters ensnared in a new nightmare. This formula has kept the anthology unpredictable for over a decade, but the upcoming thirteenth season is taking a notably different direction.
Instead of starting anew, ‘American Horror Story: 13’ is uniting some of the franchise’s most iconic characters and actors for what is being billed as a true crossover event. As the season’s premiere on September 24 approaches on FX and Hulu, fans have been treated to a steady stream of new footage and images that showcase just how ambitious this reunion is.
The latest batch of content includes an exclusive set of first-look images shared by ScreenRant, providing fans with their clearest look yet at ten new and returning characters entering the season. Among the most striking reveals is Evan Peters donning the Rubber Man suit as Tate Langdon, the beloved villain from ‘Murder House’ and ‘Apocalypse,’ marking one of the most eagerly awaited returns of the entire season.
Peters is not stopping there. The same set of images also features him returning as James Patrick March, the piano-playing killer from ‘Hotel,’ confirming that the actor will reprise several of his most memorable roles within a single season. Kai Anderson, Peters’ villain from ‘Cult,’ can also be seen lurking in the background of an image with Billie Lourd, who is back as both Winter Anderson from ‘Cult’ and Mallory from ‘Apocalypse.’
This layered casting has become a defining feature of this season’s marketing. According to the exclusive images, other franchise veterans appear throughout various shots, including Jamie Brewer, confirmed to return as Addie Langdon from ‘Murder House,’ even as her appearance in one image closely resembles Nan, her character from ‘Coven’ and ‘Apocalypse.’
New faces are joining the reunion as well, with Avantika appearing as Ophelia, Alex Consani as Morwenna, Leslie Grossman reprising Coco St. Pierre Vanderbilt, John Waters stepping into the role of Mr. Phibes, Madelaine Petsch appearing as Kira, and Orlando Jones returning as Papa Legba.
Ryan Murphy has been clear about his vision for this season, wanting it to serve as a celebration of the franchise’s villains rather than revisiting any single storyline. “I didn’t want to just do a Coven reboot,” Murphy told Vogue. “I was very interested in the greatest villains we’ve done.”
This ambition goes beyond Peters’ multiple roles. Sarah Paulson is reportedly playing six different characters throughout the season, while Jessica Lange is reprising all four of her iconic roles from the show’s early seasons, marking her first full-season return since leaving the franchise after ‘Freak Show’ in 2015.

Lange’s involvement is particularly significant given her history with the series. She only made a brief return for a small guest appearance in 2018’s ‘Apocalypse,’ and Murphy has indicated that he may not have proceeded with this crossover season at all if Lange had declined the opportunity to return.
With so many actors juggling multiple past roles and numerous storylines converging into a single thirteen-episode season, ‘AHS: 13’ is shaping up to be one of the most structurally ambitious entries the anthology has ever attempted. Whether it can balance that scale without sacrificing the character-driven horror that the franchise is known for remains the biggest question as premiere night approaches.
For longtime fans who have followed every twisted iteration of this universe, seeing Tate Langdon back in that iconic mask might just be enough to make this the season’s most anticipated moment.
