New ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Disney+ Banner Sparks Season 2 Speculation Among Fans

Star Wars enthusiasts have become adept at searching for subtle clues regarding Lucasfilm’s upcoming plans, especially as the franchise’s release schedule appears quite sparse at the moment. Aside from ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 and ‘Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord’ Season 2, there are currently few confirmed projects on the television front.

This lack of content has heightened fans’ eagerness to seize on any potential hints, and a recent tweet from Star Wars Holocron has done just that. The account shared an updated image of the ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ banner on Disney+, prompting speculation about whether this change signifies something more significant.

The prevailing theory online suggests that this visual update could be paving the way for an announcement regarding ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Season 2, a project that has lingered in rumor limbo for years without any official confirmation or cancellation from Lucasfilm. Given the current scarcity of Star Wars TV offerings, fans view this as one of the more credible signs that the miniseries may finally receive a sequel.

Part of the reason this rumor persists is due to star Ewan McGregor’s consistent enthusiasm for reprising his role over the years. In a past interview with Variety, McGregor expressed his desire to participate in a second season, although he noted that discussions have yet to materialize.

This pattern mirrors the lead-up to the confirmation of Season 1, which is why fans are cautious about taking his comments at face value. McGregor has even shared his own ideas for what a second season could entail, including the return of Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker and possibly incorporating a version of Yoda.

When ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ debuted on Disney+ in 2022, it experienced a somewhat tumultuous reception, with critics and fans noting its emphasis on new characters like Reva Sevander rather than focusing more on Obi-Wan himself. Some viewers felt that the character was not depicted with the level of strength expected from someone who had spent a decade in hiding on Tatooine.

Despite the initial backlash, the show’s reputation has improved significantly over time, following a trend that has become familiar within the Star Wars community. The transformation of the prequel trilogy’s reputation is often cited as a prime example of how this fanbase tends to embrace projects they initially criticized.

As the franchise’s live-action offerings appear limited heading into next year, reviving a project featuring McGregor and possibly Christensen would be a relatively low-risk strategy to generate excitement. Productions centered around these two actors have consistently attracted attention and viewership, regardless of the surrounding narrative’s divisiveness.

Fans are also looking forward to Star Wars Celebration 2027, set for next April in Los Angeles, as a potential venue for any significant franchise announcements that may be forthcoming. Whether the new Disney+ banner is a genuine indication or simply a routine update remains uncertain, but it has certainly reignited discussions about whether Obi-Wan’s journey is truly over.

At this point, nothing has been officially confirmed by Lucasfilm, leaving the banner change as speculation rather than a definitive announcement.
