‘Miraculous’ Creator Confirms Live-Action Series Is Officially in Development
French animation has quietly established one of the most successful global franchises in children’s entertainment over the last decade, and the creator behind it has just provided fans with a significant update on the franchise’s future.
Jeremy Zag co-created ‘Miraculous, Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir’ through his studio Zag, transforming the animated series into a worldwide franchise that has expanded across television, film, games, and merchandise since its launch.
This global success earned Zag a prestigious honor this week, being named Deadline’s 2026 French TV Disruptor at Unifrance’s Rendez Vous market, an award presented at the historic Montivilliers Abbey in Normandy, France. Before receiving this accolade, Zag spoke with Deadline to discuss his work and revealed exciting details about the franchise’s next steps, confirming that a live-action series based on ‘Miraculous’ is officially moving forward.
Zag confirmed that the production team is already assembled for the project, stating to Deadline, “We’re going to keep the DNA of what people love about Miraculous,” while noting that producers and writers are actively working on the show.
Additionally, Zag provided an update on another significant project in development, an animated feature titled ‘Melody’ featuring Katy Perry. He explained that Perry has taken on a substantial creative role in the film beyond just voicing the lead character, stating to Deadline that she is heavily involved in shaping both the music and the overall narrative.
According to Zag, the film follows a young girl who aspires to sing but struggles with self-belief, a theme he emphasized as central to the project. He also revealed that the team is collaborating with Gary Trousdale, the acclaimed director behind Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ adding another layer of animation expertise to the production.
Zag’s insights reflect a broader philosophy that has guided his career, emphasizing his consistent approach of building entire universes around his projects rather than standalone properties, encompassing television, film, gaming, and merchandising simultaneously. This strategy has clearly paid off with ‘Miraculous,’ which has become one of the most recognizable animated franchises to emerge from France in recent years.

With the live-action series now confirmed to be in active development and ‘Melody’ continuing to evolve alongside Katy Perry’s creative input, Zag’s portfolio is set to expand well beyond the animated realm that initially brought him fame. Given his career focus on building enduring franchises, both projects seem poised to be the next chapters in that ongoing ambition.
