Emma Stone has established herself as one of Hollywood’s most celebrated talents in recent years, transitioning from awards-season favorite in ‘Poor Things’ to earning new nominations for ‘Bugonia.’ After a period marked by intense, thought-provoking roles, she is now embracing a lighter project.

This change comes with Universal’s ‘The Catch,’ a film that has been creating buzz since its announcement earlier this year, primarily due to its unique lead pairing. Although both actors have been prominent figures in major studio films, Stone and her co-star had never appeared together on screen until this project brought them together.

This week, Emma Stone and Chris Pine were spotted filming a passionate kiss scene for ‘The Catch’ on Friday night in Brooklyn, New York. On set, Stone donned a brown sweater and black pants, while Pine sported a black jacket draped over his shoulders, with his right arm in a sling, a detail related to his character rather than any actual injury.

Earlier that same day, Stone was also seen filming separate gardening scenes on the Brooklyn set, receiving direction in between takes from her husband, Dave McCary, who is directing the film. This collaborative effort between the couple adds a personal touch to a project that is already attracting considerable attention.

‘The Catch’ has been characterized as a mix of ‘Bull Durham’ and ‘Notting Hill,’ with Stone portraying a character labeled as the most hated woman in baseball. This premise gives the film a unique sports-related romantic comedy angle, distinguishing it from more traditional entries in the genre.

The supporting cast includes Ashley Padilla as Stone’s sister and comedian Druski as her character’s bodyguard, along with Tim Robbins and Sissy Spacek in confirmed additional roles. Chris Fleming and Irina Shayk also joined the production in July, further enhancing an already impressive ensemble surrounding the film’s leads.

This latest filming session builds on footage captured throughout the summer, including an earlier shoot in the same Brooklyn neighborhood in August, where Stone filmed scenes alongside Robbins and Padilla. Pine and Druski were also seen filming in the area around that time, indicating that production has been consistently working through key scenes with various cast configurations since shooting commenced.

‘The Catch’ originated from a spec script by Patrick Kang and Michael Levin, with Jen Statsky, known for co-creating ‘Hacks,’ and Travis Helwig, a writer on ‘Adam Ruins Everything,’ providing the latest draft. Stone was drawn to the script after considering several options for a fall project, and the film moved forward once Pine finalized his deal to join her.

Shawn Levy and Dan Levine are producing through their company 21 Laps, alongside Michael H. Weber, while Stone, McCary, and Ali Herting are producing through Stone’s Fruit Tree production company. Principal photography began in July in New York City, with Universal scheduling the film’s theatrical release for May 21, 2027.

With the excitement surrounding Stone and Pine’s on-screen chemistry already building before the film’s release, these Brooklyn set photos provide fans with their first real look at the dynamic between the two leads in character. As filming continues and many story details remain under wraps, anticipation for ‘The Catch’ is steadily increasing.
