Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man has been building toward significant achievements over the years. ‘No Way Home’ demonstrated back in 2021 that a Spider-Man film could surpass the $1.9 billion mark globally, but ‘Brand New Day’ has consistently threatened to exceed that benchmark throughout its theatrical run.

The film debuted in July with record-breaking numbers and maintained the top position at the domestic box office for six consecutive weekends, a feat matched by only a select few releases in recent history. Such sustained success rarely translates to the same level of international performance, where box office legs often shorten significantly after the opening month.

However, ‘Brand New Day’ has defied that trend. It has officially become the fifth Hollywood film in history to cross the $1.5 billion mark at the international box office, a milestone reached by only a handful of films. This achievement occurred during its seventh overseas weekend, where it added $19 million despite a 27.2% drop from the previous week, bringing its total international earnings to $1.52 billion across 66 markets.

This drop-off is notably favorable compared to how other major franchise films performed at the same point in their runs. ‘No Way Home’ experienced a steeper 23.8% decline during its seventh international weekend, grossing $21.1 million, while ‘Avengers: Endgame’ saw a much sharper 47.8% drop, earning just $4.5 million during the equivalent timeframe. This makes ‘Brand New Day’s’ current hold one of the strongest among recent Marvel releases.

With a domestic total of $935.2 million against a net production budget of $225 million before marketing, the film’s worldwide gross now stands at approximately $2.45 billion. This figure places it ahead of where both ‘No Way Home’ and ‘Endgame’ were at the same point in their theatrical runs, with ‘No Way Home’ at $1.74 billion and ‘Endgame’ at $2.73 billion globally during the comparable weekend.

Given its steady international performance, the film is projected to finish its theatrical run with a total between $2.5 billion and $2.6 billion worldwide. This would secure its position among the highest-grossing films in history, regardless of genre or studio, although it is expected to fall short of ‘Endgame’s’ eventual $2.8 billion lifetime total.

Crossing the $1.5 billion overseas threshold places the film in a rare category, joining a select group of only four other Hollywood releases that have achieved this international benchmark. For a franchise that has been a reliable box office performer for over two decades without necessarily reaching the highest tiers of all-time earnings, this sustained global success marks a significant turning point for the character on the big screen.

With its momentum still strong seven weekends into its run, ‘Brand New Day’ shows few signs of slowing down as it approaches the $2.6 billion mark. Given its consistent outperformance against typical late-run drop-off patterns, there is a real possibility that its final total could exceed current projections.

The film has already established itself as the highest-grossing solo superhero movie of all time and currently ranks as the third-highest-grossing film in box office history overall, trailing only ‘Avatar’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ For a fourth standalone entry in a character’s franchise, following three previous films and numerous team-up appearances in the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe, maintaining this level of global box office strength deep into its theatrical run highlights the significant audience demand for Holland’s interpretation of the character.
