The Face That Broke the Avengers: New ‘Doomsday’ TV Spot Highlights Doctor Doom
Marvel Studios has ramped up its promotional efforts for the latter half of 2026, unveiling trailers, D23 exclusives, and Comic-Con footage at a rapid pace, underscoring the significance of this December’s release. With ‘Avengers: Endgame’ concluding the franchise’s last major team-up seven years ago, the pressure to make ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ feel like a true event has influenced nearly every aspect of the marketing strategy.
Central to this campaign is one character in particular. Robert Downey Jr.’s transition from Tony Stark to Doctor Doom has been pivotal, with Marvel gradually showcasing his transformation through a series of character teasers, a full trailer, and a special D23 preview narrated by Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm.
The latest addition to this rollout is a new TV spot for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which provides fans with another look at Downey’s villain ahead of the film’s theatrical debut on December 18. This spot emphasizes Doom’s menacing presence while avoiding spoilers about how the film’s extensive cast ultimately interacts.

This approach aligns with the studio’s strategy throughout the campaign, consistently opting for emotionally charged glimpses rather than comprehensive plot details. Much of the excitement surrounding ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is rooted in the novelty of witnessing Downey, who has spent 11 films earning audience affection as Iron Man, take on the role of the MCU’s next significant antagonist.
This transformation is a bold move for Marvel, as it asks longtime fans to root against, or at least fear, an actor they have supported for over a decade. The D23 trailer emphasized this tension, with Kirby’s Sue Storm narrating her awareness of Doom’s lost state while not realizing how deeply he was broken. Meanwhile, Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic confronts him amidst the ruins, and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor ominously promises that Doom will be “begging for hell” before their encounter.
In addition to Downey’s prominent role, the marketing has also focused on other emotionally impactful narratives, including Chris Evans’s return as Steve Rogers alongside Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter, both of whom hinted at D23 that their reunion carries significant weight within the storyline. Earlier September TV spots highlighted the film’s expansive ensemble, showcasing the New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men together in the promotional material.
The magnitude of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has been a focal point from the outset, as the film unites heroes from three distinct cinematic universes against a looming existential threat. Its cast list reads like a who’s who of Marvel history, featuring Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Wyatt Russell, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Kathryn Newton, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Alan Cumming, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Mabel Cadena, and Tenoch Huerta Mejia.
Even with such a vast roster, other stars have expressed interest in joining the film. At D23, Hugh Jackman surprised the panel with a video message alongside an off-screen Ryan Reynolds, humorously checking in “totally unprompted” to see if the film needed help rounding out the cast, hinting he might even persuade Reynolds to appear as well.
Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors behind some of the MCU’s most successful previous team-up films, are helming ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and producing through their AGBO banner alongside Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito. The film is set to hit theaters exclusively on December 18 and will also be available in INFINITY VISION, a new certification for Premium Large Format cinemas designed to ensure audiences enjoy a top-tier presentation with large screens, bright images, and exceptional sound.
With ‘Avengers: Endgame’ also being re-released in theaters ahead of the new film to remind audiences of the previous storyline, Marvel is clearly banking on nostalgia and scale. Each new trailer, spot, and convention reveal appears to be building toward a theatrical event the studio hasn’t attempted in years.
