There are significant box office performances, and then there are those that compel analysts to revisit the all-time charts. The box office saga of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has been the latter since its debut on July 31. Each week has unveiled a new milestone, with Sony and Marvel rewriting the record books in tandem.

The film has consistently made headlines with some of the fastest starts in industry history. It opened to a staggering $360M domestically, marking the largest opening weekend ever, and launched with a remarkable $932M globally. This global debut is only surpassed by ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ which opened to $1.2B.

Now, the worldwide total has reached extraordinary heights. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has grossed approximately $2.45B globally, positioning it as the third-highest-grossing film of all time. Only ‘Avatar,’ at around $2.92B, and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ sit above it, as reported by Variety and Deadline.

The speed of its rise has been remarkable. The film crossed the $1B mark in just six days, making it the second-fastest to achieve this feat behind ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ It reached $2B after only three weekends, becoming the eighth film to do so and the second-fastest after ‘Endgame,’ which took 11 days.

From that point, it continued to surpass every competitor in its path. It overtook ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ to become the highest-grossing Spider-Man film ever, then surpassed ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’ It also outperformed ‘Titanic,’ ‘Ne Zha 2,’ and ‘Avatar: The Way of Water,’ securing its position at No. 3.

The international performance has been equally impressive. China has emerged as the film’s top overseas market, with $227.4M as of early September, followed by the UK at $125.2M, Mexico at $88.2M, France at $81.6M, and Brazil at $70.2M. According to Deadline, it has become Sony’s highest-grossing release ever in 56 international territories.

It has also established local records in various markets worldwide. The film became India’s biggest Hollywood release ever after just two weekends and emerged as the top movie of all time in Brazil and Spain during the same period. In Brazil, it surpassed both ‘No Way Home’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ by significant margins.

Domestically, the film has also been a powerhouse. On Sept. 16, it surpassed ‘The Force Awakens’ at $936.773M to become the highest-grossing film ever at the domestic box office. It held the No. 1 spot for six consecutive weekends and is now nearing $950M in North America.

Sony’s investment has yielded substantial returns. The film carries a reported budget of $225M and has contributed to making summer 2026 the highest-grossing summer ever at the global box office, totaling $4.765B. It stands as Sony’s biggest release ever and Tom Holland’s highest-grossing film in his portrayal of Spider-Man.

The next question is how much more the film can accumulate. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ is set to return to theaters on Sept. 25 with ‘Avengers: Endgame: Encore,’ which Deadline suggests will likely extend its lead over ‘Brand New Day.’ This means the gap to second place may increase, even as the web-slinger continues to climb in North America.

Nevertheless, there is no doubt about the film’s place in box office history. It has surpassed a series of former champions, broken a decade-old domestic record, and provided Sony with a franchise high point that will be challenging to replicate. Even a third-place finish would solidify its status as one of the most successful superhero films ever released.
