‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Continues Its Record-Breaking Box Office Run
Few blockbusters experience a resurgence at the box office, let alone a prolonged victory lap. The ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ box office journey has defied the typical rules of theatrical decline since its debut on July 31. From a record-breaking launch to a position near the top of the all-time global chart, Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as Peter Parker has achieved one milestone after another.
The film opened with an astounding $360M domestically, marking the biggest opening weekend in history, surpassing ‘Avengers: Endgame’ which had $357.1M. It then became the fastest film to reach every domestic milestone from $400M to $900M. On Sept. 16, it surpassed ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ at $936.773M after just 47 days, claiming the title of the highest-grossing film ever at the domestic box office.
Now, the eighth weekend numbers indicate that the web-slinger is still gaining momentum. ‘Brand New Day’ earned $6.5M over the three-day weekend, a modest drop of just 22.6% from the previous frame, even after losing 286 theaters on Friday. This brings its domestic total to $944.5M.
This figure sets the stage for another historic achievement. A box office analyst on X noted that the film could become the first ever to cross $950M in the US as soon as next weekend, with a total nearing $960M possible. It also ended the weekend in over 3,000 theaters, a remarkable feat for a film in its eighth weekend.

The film’s international debut was equally impressive. It amassed $932M globally in its opening weekend and crossed the $1B mark after just six days, making it the second-fastest film to achieve this milestone, trailing only ‘Avengers: Endgame.’
It reached $2B after three weekends, again the second-fastest behind ‘Endgame,’ which took 11 days. Currently, the film stands at $2.45B worldwide, ranking third all time behind ‘Avatar’ ($2.92B) and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ ($2.72B). This positions it ahead of ‘Avatar: The Way of Water,’ and it is Sony’s highest-grossing film ever, produced on a reported budget of $225M.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film picks up four years after ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’ Peter is now an adult living alone, having erased himself from the memories of those he loves. He is a full-time Spider-Man in a New York that no longer recognizes him, facing a new wave of crimes and a surprising physical evolution.
Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Jon Bernthal star alongside Holland, and audiences have rated the film with an A CinemaScore. Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman shared his thoughts on the film’s success when he told The Hollywood Reporter that “the theatrical audience demands greatness.” This was in response to inquiries about superhero fatigue following the underperformance of other recent releases.

These results have contributed to a record-setting overall season. Summer 2026 is now the highest-grossing summer ever at the global box office with $4.765B, surpassing the previous record set in 2013.

The next big question is how much further the film can ascend. Variety noted that reaching $1B domestically, a feat no film has accomplished yet, seems unlikely at this stage without a re-release. Nevertheless, a total in the $950M to $960M range would mark another historic milestone for a film that has already rewritten much of the record book.
For now, ‘Brand New Day’ continues to hold its ground while newer releases like ‘Resident Evil’ vie for attention. Whether it lands at $950M or beyond, its run has been one of the most extraordinary in box office history.
