‘The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth’ Trailer Reveals 1977 Hollywood Return
Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ left fans curious about Cliff Booth’s fate after the credits rolled, and it seems Hollywood still has stories to tell about him. Brad Pitt’s laid-back stuntman-turned-fixer became a fan favorite in the 2019 film, earning Pitt his first competitive acting Oscar in the process.
Now, that character is set for a full continuation, and it’s coming with an unexpected pedigree. David Fincher, known for ‘Seven,’ ‘Fight Club,’ and ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,’ is directing, marking his fourth collaboration with Pitt, while Tarantino remains the sole credited screenwriter without directing.
This week, the first official trailer was released under the title ‘The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth,’ confirming that the story resumes in the summer of 1977, eight years after the events of ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.’ Cliff continues his work as a fixer, navigating the grittier side of Los Angeles. Timothy Olyphant reprises his role as actor James Stacy, joined by a stellar new cast that includes Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, and Holt McCallany.
Brad Pitt returns as Cliff Booth, only this time it’s 1977 and it’s a very different Hollywood.

Netflix acquired Tarantino’s script in April 2025, and the project quickly became one of the streamer’s most significant theatrical ventures. Filming took place from July 2025 to January 2026 across California, with crews reconstructing 1970s-era sets in Highland Park to capture the period detail that resonated with audiences and critics in the original film.
The film’s budget reflects its ambition, with a reported $200 million price tag, the largest in either Fincher’s or Tarantino’s careers. Pitt is said to earn $40 million for his role as producer and star, while both Fincher and Tarantino reportedly received $20 million each.
In terms of release strategy, Netflix is handling this film differently than its usual same-day streaming drops. It will have an IMAX-exclusive theatrical run starting November 25 before becoming available on Netflix on December 23, providing a full theatrical window that’s uncommon for the streamer’s original films.
Additionally, a literary companion piece is on the way. Tarantino has penned a novelization titled ‘The Further Adventures of Cliff Booth,’ set for release on December 8, just weeks before the film hits theaters.
With the affection surrounding Cliff Booth’s laid-back charm in the first film, combining that character with Fincher’s meticulous, tension-driven style presents an intriguing creative endeavor. Whether Fincher’s precision harmonizes with Tarantino’s relaxed, hangout-movie approach or results in something entirely unique will be revealed once the film screens.
For now, the trailer has fans excited to see Pitt reprise his role alongside a remarkable supporting cast, and the November IMAX release indicates Netflix aims for audiences to experience this film on the largest screen possible before it transitions to home streaming.
