For years, Kit Harington has kept the door closed on the idea of a follow-up series centered around Jon Snow. Having spent a decade in the ‘Game of Thrones‘ universe, he emphasized the need for distance from the character that shaped his career after the show concluded in 2019.

This distance was evident in how he consistently dismissed discussions about a spinoff. Development on a Jon Snow-focused project, reportedly titled ‘Snow,’ began at HBO as early as 2022, with George R.R. Martin involved in initial talks. However, the concept was ultimately considered too bleak and was quietly shelved by 2024. Harington had previously been clear about his desire to move on, even stating to reporters that he had no interest in continuing the story.

Now, however, his perspective appears to have changed. Harington has expressed that he is finally ready to revisit the character, explaining that after taking a step back and engaging in other projects, his relationship with Jon Snow’s world has evolved. “After a little while of thinking about it, it kind of was me. I said, ‘This isn’t quite the right story,’” he remarked, adding, “now I’ve gone and done all these other things and now I feel more comfortable with that character and that world again and where it sits in my life.”

This newfound openness aligns with the careful approach Harington and HBO have taken regarding the project from the beginning. He has previously emphasized the importance of moving forward only if they could find the right story, rather than rushing a follow-up just for nostalgia’s sake. This caution is why the original pitch, which centered on a psychologically shattered Jon Snow abandoning Longclaw and distancing himself from Ghost, never progressed beyond the initial concept stage.

The renewed interest comes as HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ universe continues to expand successfully, with both ‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ attracting audiences and boosting the network’s confidence in spinoff storytelling. Reports have also indicated that writer Quoc Dang Tran, known for ‘Drops of God’ and ‘Call My Agent!,’ is attached to a reworked version of the project, with speculation suggesting a shift toward Essos and a potential inclusion of Arya Stark.

Despite this shift in tone, it does not mean that a Jon Snow series is officially back in active production. Harington’s comments do not confirm that he is signed on for anything specific. However, his willingness to express comfort with the character again marks a significant change from the outright refusals fans have heard in the past.

Considering the cautious approach both Harington and HBO have taken to ensure the project is right, any real progress will likely take time to materialize into something tangible. For now, fans can take solace in a more open Kit Harington and a world that still holds potential for exploration.
