‘Harry Potter’ Star Emma Watson Dazzles at George Lucas’s New Museum Opening
Hollywood rarely unites in such a grand fashion as it did this past weekend, when some of the biggest names in the industry gathered in Los Angeles for an event that felt more like a cultural milestone than a typical red carpet affair. This occasion marked the long-awaited debut of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, a project that has been years in the making, bringing together filmmakers, actors, and cultural icons under one roof for the first time.
The excitement was palpable as the museum, a $1 billion passion project by ‘Star Wars’ creator George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, finally opened its doors. After more than seven years of construction in Exposition Park, the museum celebrated its opening night gala on September 19, just ahead of its public debut.

Among the many A-listers present, Emma Watson stood out with her stunning look for the evening. The actress arrived in a custom black velvet minidress adorned with real, live flowers, reflecting her commitment to sustainable fashion on the red carpet.
Styled by Jared Ellner, Watson’s dress featured an off-the-shoulder design with a short hem, embellished with intricate three-dimensional florals crafted by local florist Anthony Maslo. The dramatic border of white orchids, baby’s breath, and delicate pale-yellow and pink blooms contrasted beautifully with the understated body of the dress.

The evening concluded with a performance by the Black Eyed Peas, wrapping up a night that organizers aimed to make as unforgettable as the museum itself. A particular group photo from the gala, showcasing a collection of legendary storytellers from the film industry, quickly went viral online.
Beyond the celebrity turnout, the museum represents a monumental achievement for Lucas, encompassing 300,000 square feet and surrounded by 11 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens. Designed by architect Ma Yansong, the museum features over 30 galleries dedicated to visual storytelling, showcasing everything from prehistoric cave paintings to modern screen art.
The permanent collection is expected to include works from artists like Norman Rockwell, Jack Kirby, Frida Kahlo, Maxfield Parrish, and Jessie Willcox Smith across its five floors. It will also house the Lucas Archives, which will feature models, props, and concept art from Lucas’s extensive filmmaking career.
“Stories are mythology, and when illustrated, they help humans understand the mysteries of life,” Lucas stated in a message shared by the museum, as reported by CBS News, encapsulating the philosophy behind the museum’s expansive collection.
With the gala now behind it, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art opened to the public on September 22, marking the conclusion of a construction journey that began in March 2018. For a city already rich in cultural institutions, the museum adds another significant destination dedicated entirely to the art of visual storytelling.
For Watson, this appearance further cements her presence in the cultural conversation, as she continues to make headlines with her fashion choices and participation in major industry events. With its impressive guest list, stunning architecture, and the scale of the celebration, the Lucas Museum’s opening night has already established itself as one of the year’s defining Hollywood gatherings.
