‘Gilmore Girls’ enthusiasts have plenty to celebrate recently. The beloved series celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, accompanied by numerous cast reunions, and HBO Max is set to release the first authorized documentary about the show, featuring outtakes and behind-the-scenes moments. Each new ‘Gilmore Girls’ reunion is a delightful treat for fans who continue to cherish Stars Hollow.

The original series aired for 7 seasons from 2000 to 2007, initially on The WB and later on The CW. Lauren Graham portrayed Lorelai Gilmore, while Melissa McCarthy took on the role of her best friend Sookie St. James, the talented chef at the inn that Lorelai manages. Both actresses reprised their roles in Netflix’s 2016 revival, ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.’

On Wednesday, September 23, the duo reunited once more on the red carpet at Variety’s 2026 Power of Women event, held at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

This reunion had a meaningful purpose. McCarthy was one of four honorees at this year’s Power of Women event, alongside Jennifer Hudson, Pearlena Igbokwe, and Sharon Stone, with Graham presenting her award. Queen Latifah honored Igbokwe, while Marc Maron presented to Stone.

The evening was hosted by comedian Iliza Shlesinger and partnered with Lifetime. According to Variety, each honoree took the stage to highlight a chosen charity and showcase the various forms of power. McCarthy supported the Joyful Heart Foundation, recognizing two influential women in her life, Mariska Hargitay and Gloria Steinem.

Her message emphasized action over appearance, stating that true power is demonstrated by those who roll up their sleeves and help bring change, as reported by Variety.

The two stars made a stunning appearance together. Graham dazzled in a red one-shoulder gown, while McCarthy opted for a sparkling black beaded dress with sheer cape panels, garnering significant attention from fashion critics. The vibrant contrast between the bold red and the shimmering black made them one of the most photographed pairs of the evening.

This reunion comes at a time when McCarthy has been reflecting on her experiences in Stars Hollow. In her recent cover story for Variety, published just days before the event, she described the show as demanding, recalling scripts that could reach 93 pages filled with rapid, reference-heavy dialogue. She regarded the experience as invaluable training and mentioned that she still keeps in touch with Graham and former co-star Yanic Truesdale, who portrayed Michel.

McCarthy is also shifting towards more serious roles. The Emmy winner and Oscar nominee will next be seen in Netflix’s ‘The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey,’ set to premiere on December 10. Her Power of Women cover story also discusses this project and Hollywood’s justifications for the perceived failure of comedies.

Graham, a four-time New York Times bestselling author, accomplished producer, and SAG and Golden Globe nominee, has seen her connection to the show deepen over time. She remains a prominent figure in its legacy, and the upcoming HBO Max documentary features her alongside creator Amy Sherman-Palladino.
