‘The Love Hypothesis’ Star Lili Reinhart Shines in New Interview Magazine Shoot
Every few years, the romantic comedy genre is declared dead, and yet, someone always steps up to revive it. Lili Reinhart is the latest champion of this cause, and her recent feature in Interview Magazine serves as a stylish reminder of her commitment to the mission.
This endeavor is tied to ‘The Love Hypothesis,’ the Prime Video adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s 2021 novel. Reinhart plays Olive Smith, a biology PhD candidate who finds herself in a fake relationship with the intimidating professor, Dr. Adam Carlsen, portrayed by Tom Bateman. Not only does she star in the film, but she also serves as an executive producer, with the movie premiering on Prime Video on September 23.
On the same day, Reinhart was photographed by Taryn Segal for Interview Magazine. The shoot took place in a wood-paneled hotel room, where Reinhart posed in chic black outfits, kneeling beside her heels while holding a black lace mask.

The feature combines stunning photos with a conversation between Reinhart and Grammy-winning singer Laufey, who conducted the interview. This was their first meeting, and Laufey revealed that she is a longtime fan of ‘Riverdale,’ sharing how she used to wake up at 6 AM in Iceland to catch new episodes with her twin sister before school.
The interview took place on September 15 in New York, coinciding with the final leg of Reinhart’s press tour. Much of their discussion revolved around her press-tour wardrobe, which was a deliberate homage to romantic comedies. Reinhart explained that she and her stylist curated around 30 looks, inspired by leading ladies from 1990s and 2000s rom-coms.

The choice of vintage clothing aimed to give ‘The Love Hypothesis’ the nostalgic feel of an early-2000s film rather than a contemporary one. Reinhart mentioned in her conversation with Interview Magazine, “they just don’t make them like they used to.” Laufey quickly recognized the theme, highlighting a green dress inspired by ‘Atonement,’ while Reinhart noted she had about eight more looks to showcase.

Reinhart shared her reasons for taking on the project, revealing that she fell in love with the book while attending a festival in Venice. She connected with Olive’s character, appreciating her small circle of friends, and acknowledged that some fans may always compare her to their personal interpretation of Olive.
The casting of Bateman was determined through a Zoom chemistry read. Reinhart recalled how they improvised and exchanged banter during the audition, with Bateman bringing genuine emotion to a scene where Adam reveals his past. This convinced her he was perfect for the role of a man with a tough exterior and a softer heart, embodying the classic grumpy-sunshine dynamic.
Another interesting detail from their chat was Reinhart’s observation that during ‘Riverdale,’ the show’s audience skewed towards viewers in their 50s, a surprising fact for a series that became a teen-drama sensation.
This experience seems to have sparked Reinhart’s interest in romance. She expressed her love for a Mr. Darcy-style slow burn and her desire to explore more romantic projects. She dreams of appearing in a period piece, listing ‘Marie Antoinette,’ ‘Pride and Prejudice,’ and ‘Atonement’ as her favorites.
Early reactions to her current project are promising. RogerEbert.com described the film as a charming rom-com that benefits from the chemistry between its leads, while Collider referred to it as a near-perfect rom-com experiment. India TV offered a more measured perspective with a 3 out of 5 rating, noting that while the film doesn’t innovate the genre, it delivers the comforting elements audiences expect.
