‘The Apothecary Diaries’ Season 3 Trailer Reveals October Premiere Date and New Character
Fall 2026’s anime lineup is packed with returning favorites, including the much-anticipated second season of ‘Black Clover’ and the revival of ‘Dragon Ball Super’. However, few comebacks have stirred as much excitement as the return of Maomao and her clever mysteries. Since its debut in 2023, ‘The Apothecary Diaries’ has garnered a dedicated fanbase, skillfully blending court intrigue with medical detective work in a unique way.
The excitement only intensified after a special second-anniversary event last October, where the announcement of the third season as a split-cour broadcast was made. Fans have eagerly awaited confirmation of when the new episodes would finally premiere.
That wait is now over, as a newly released trailer has confirmed that ‘The Apothecary Diaries’ Season 3 will debut on October 2, 2026. This season will air as a split cour, with the first half airing this fall and the second half scheduled for April 2027, with Crunchyroll streaming episodes worldwide as they air.

The upcoming season is set to introduce a darker chapter for Maomao and her companions, featuring a locust infestation that threatens to cause a devastating famine. This looming crisis promises to elevate the stakes beyond what the series has explored in its first two seasons, drawing Maomao into a mystery with far-reaching consequences.
Joining the cast for this new arc is voice actress Reina Ueda, who will portray Bai Niangniang, a pale and enigmatic character described in various reports as an “immortal maiden” or someone living with albinism. While details about her role remain limited, she is expected to play a crucial part in the unfolding storyline.
The trailer also offers fans a glimpse of the season’s opening theme, “Kumo o Nuke Kazashimo e Watashi Dake,” performed by Yorushika, which translates to “I Am Alone, Breaking Through the Clouds Downwind.” Studio OLM has taken over full production responsibilities for this season, notably without the involvement of Toho Animation Studio, which co-produced the previous two seasons.
The release of Season 3 coincides closely with another significant project in the franchise’s expansion. ‘The Apothecary Diaries: The Deceased Empress’ Treasure,’ an original anime film written by series creator Natsu Hyuga, is set to premiere in Japan on December 11, 2026. This film is positioned as canon and takes place chronologically between the events of seasons two and three.
The film follows Maomao and her companions as they work to return a deceased consort’s body to her home village, continuing the series’ tradition of court-set mysteries. While the Japanese release date for the film is confirmed, no North American release date has been announced yet.
With the TV series, an original film, and a live-action drama adaptation for Amazon Prime Video now part of the franchise’s expanding universe, ‘The Apothecary Diaries’ shows no signs of slowing down.
