‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ Release Date, Time, Where to Watch and Everything You Need to Know
Shemar Moore is back in uniform, and this time the mission is personal. ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ marks the return of Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson after the original series’ cancellation, and fans of the long-running franchise can finally mark their calendars for the premiere.
The spinoff has been in development for months, and with the premiere approaching, viewers are eager to learn when, where, and how to catch all the action.
‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ premieres in the United States on September 25 at 10 p.m. ET and PT, airing exclusively on STARZ. Episodes will be available on the STARZ app at midnight ET on the release day, allowing fans in Central, Mountain, and Pacific time zones to start streaming the first hour even earlier—around 9 p.m. PT, 10 p.m. MT, or 11 p.m. CT the night before.
For those who prefer traditional viewing, the STARZ channel will air the premiere at midnight ET, followed by a rerun at 10 p.m. ET on Friday and another airing at 12:46 a.m. ET on Saturday. This gives viewers ample opportunities to catch ‘Hondo’ back in action, even if they miss the initial drop.
The series consists of a 10-episode run, with new episodes airing weekly on Fridays across all STARZ streaming and on-demand platforms. Sony Pictures Television has also secured international distribution, ensuring that overseas fans won’t have to wait as long as in previous franchise rollouts.
In the United States, the show streams through the STARZ app and airs on the STARZ cable channel for subscribers. It is also available on Prime Video as a STARZ title, meaning anyone who subscribes to the STARZ channel add-on through Prime Video can stream it there as well.
International audiences are included in the rollout too. Sony Pictures Television has sold the series to Sky in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, Sky New Zealand, Stan in Australia, Rai and Sky Italia in Italy, DPG in Belgium, Tet in the Baltics, and Bell Media along with Quebecor Content in Canada. Germany and Austria will start airing the series on October 9, 2026, on Sky, with new episodes released weekly.
Some regions will receive the series on the same day as the U.S. release, although specific release dates and platforms will vary by country. Sony has reportedly been in talks with Netflix about a potential second window release after the STARZ run concludes, similar to how the original ‘S.W.A.T.’ series found a long life on the streaming service.
The official premise follows Hondo being pulled out of forced retirement after a high-profile mission goes awry. He is tasked with leading an experimental unit made up of untested and unpredictable young recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, manage clashing personalities, and transform a group of outsiders into a cohesive team capable of protecting the city while saving the very program that shaped his career.
The premiere picks up two years after the events of the original series, and longtime fans can expect a few cameos from the “Mothership” show in the first episode. Commander Hicks is the one who brings Hondo back into the fold, and viewers will also get an update on Deacon’s current relationship with his old partner.
Joining Moore in the new lineup are Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, and Ronen Rubinstein as the new generation of recruits. Original cast members Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit are reprising their roles as Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay and Commander Robert Hicks, while David Lim returns as Victor Tan in the season’s penultimate episode. Jason Ning, who previously served as showrunner on Fox’s ‘Lucifer’, is at the helm of the spinoff.
Just two days after the original ‘S.W.A.T.’ series finale aired in May, it was announced that fans had not seen the last of Moore as Hondo. The spinoff was greenlit, cast, and filmed in under a year, with production wrapping in February 2026. Interestingly, no domestic distributor was attached during production, allowing Sony to retain full creative control before presenting the finished product to buyers.
Deadline first reported that STARZ had secured the show, landing the first window while Sony reportedly continues discussions with other platforms for a later streaming window. Moore has expressed his excitement for this new chapter, and the buzz among the franchise’s fanbase has only intensified since the network deal was finalized.

The renewal news has made the deal even sweeter for longtime viewers. In August 2026, the series was renewed for a second season, ensuring Hondo’s next chapter was secured before Season 1 even aired. This early confidence from Sony and STARZ indicates that the network is banking heavily on the built-in audience ‘S.W.A.T.’ cultivated during its eight-season run on CBS.
With the countdown over and the premiere finally here, both longtime ‘S.W.A.T.’ fans and newcomers are about to discover if Hondo’s new squad can uphold the legacy of the original team. What do you think this new generation of recruits will bring to the franchise that the Mothership never did?
