Sydney Sweeney’s ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ Cast Expands with New Additions
Sydney Sweeney continues her journey in the housemaid genre, as the mystery deepens with an expanding cast of suspects. ‘The Housemaid’s Secret,’ the sequel to her breakout 2025 film, has been quietly assembling one of the most talked-about ensembles of the year, with fresh casting news arriving just this month.
Unlike the original film, which recently found a new streaming home, this sequel has yet to begin filming, meaning each new casting announcement stirs up fresh speculation about how dark this next chapter may become.
Off Campus breakout Stephen Kalyn has officially joined the cast of Lionsgate’s ‘The Housemaid’s Secret,’ taking on the role of Brock Cunningham, a lawyer who becomes Millie’s boyfriend without any knowledge of her criminal past. Kalyn gained recognition for his role as Dean Di Laurentis in Prime Video’s ‘Off Campus’ and has also appeared in ‘Gen V’ and the horror film ‘Whistle.’
He joins an impressive lineup that already features Sydney Sweeney, Kirsten Dunst, Brittany Snow, Paul Anthony Kelly, and Michele Morrone, who will reprise his role as Enzo from the first film. Dunst is set to portray the enigmatic Mrs. Garrick, sometimes referred to as Wendy, while Kelly will play her husband, Douglas Garrick. Snow will take on the role of Marybeth, an unsuspecting receptionist at the Garrick family’s company.

Lionsgate announced Kalyn’s casting through an Instagram video featuring the actor reading Freida McFadden’s novel before stepping onto set, with a playful caption hinting at his character’s involvement in the Calloway household drama. This type of reveal has become the studio’s signature approach for this project.
Sweeney is also involved behind the scenes, returning as a producer through her banner alongside director Paul Feig and original screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, both of whom are back for the sequel.
The sequel follows Millie as she takes a new job in a household where she is never allowed to see the woman she works for. The arrangement turns sinister when she uncovers secrets hidden behind a locked door, threatening to expose darker truths than those from her own troubled past.
Based on the second book in Freida McFadden’s bestselling trilogy, the story finds Millie once again entangled in a wealthy household concealing something dangerous. Reports suggest that the plot involves suspected domestic abuse faced by the mistress of the house, prompting Millie to intervene and assist the victim.
The original ‘Housemaid’ was adapted from McFadden’s 2022 novel, and Lionsgate aims to expand the franchise further, with plans to eventually adapt the third book in the series, titled ‘The Housemaid Is Watching.’ This would provide Sweeney with a trilogy if audiences respond positively as they did to the first installment.
Production on the film is expected to commence later this year, giving fans ample time to anticipate the sequel’s release.
‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 17, 2027, coinciding with the premieres of ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ and ‘Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.’ This decision has already sparked discussions online, with comparisons being drawn to the cultural phenomenon of Barbenheimer.
The date is strategic, falling exactly two years after the original ‘Housemaid’ debuted during the 2025 holiday season. Lionsgate is once again positioning the sequel as counter-programming against larger franchise releases, a strategy that proved successful the first time around.
The original film opened modestly with approximately nineteen million dollars domestically, but gained momentum throughout the holiday season, ultimately grossing over four hundred million dollars worldwide against a budget of just thirty-five million. Betting on Sweeney’s star power to replicate that slow-burn success against two major franchise films is a gamble, but one that Lionsgate appears ready to take.
The ‘Housemaid’ sequel is just one of many projects on Sweeney’s busy release calendar. She is also set to star in the Edith Wharton adaptation ‘The Custom of the Country’ alongside Leo Woodall, portraying an ambitious Midwestern woman climbing New York’s social ladder.
In addition to this literary drama, Sweeney will headline Netflix and Legendary’s live-action ‘Gundam’ film opposite Noah Centineo, which is currently in production, along with the Kim Novak biopic ‘Scandalous!’ directed by Colman Domingo. She is also involved in a supernatural erotic thriller inspired by ‘Sleepy Hollow,’ based on an upcoming novel by filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer.
With numerous projects across various genres, ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ stands out as one that continues a story fans have already embraced, rather than starting anew.
Which new cast member intrigues you the most about how dark things will get for Millie this time, and are you excited to see Kirsten Dunst face off against Sydney Sweeney in this locked-door mystery?
