Olivia Rodrigo has dedicated much of 2026 to building excitement for her most significant live performance to date, and that effort culminated this week as she graced a stage adorned with wildflowers to kick off her third headlining tour. ‘The Unraveled Tour’ supports her latest album, ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love,’ and expectations were already soaring given how the artist has transformed nearly every release into a cultural phenomenon this year.

This anticipation flowed seamlessly into the opening night, which took place at a sold-out PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, Connecticut. Rodrigo took the stage promptly at 8 p.m., delivering a two-hour set featuring twenty-three songs without a single dull moment, organized into four thematic seasons that reflected the emotional journey of her new album.

The show commenced with an unforgettable entrance during “Drop Dead,” where the band elongated the song’s intro while Rodrigo remained hidden amidst a sea of flowers before emerging mid-verse, reminiscent of a “May Queen,” as described by Rolling Stone. This theatrical presentation set the stage for a night that emphasized visual spectacle alongside vocal prowess, according to a review from Rolling Stone.

One of the evening’s standout moments occurred during “The Cure,” which the same review labeled “the most gloriously heartbreaking song she’s ever written.” Positioned at center stage, Rodrigo conveyed the song’s poignant lyrics about insecurity and self-doubt as an unseen cloud began to rain actual water on her, gradually dissolving her dress as the song reached its peak. “She stood alone, unraveled, as her dress dissolved along with her emotional defenses,” the review noted, highlighting a fitting visual metaphor for both the song and the overarching theme of the show.

Billboard, also present for the opening night, commended how thoroughly the setlist embraced the new album while still incorporating fan favorites. Only one track from ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ was omitted from the opening night set, “What’s Wrong With Me,” reportedly due to the song’s studio version featuring a contribution from Robert Smith that wouldn’t translate as effectively in a live setting. However, the show did include one non-album track, the charity single “Serena Joy,” which Rodrigo released earlier this year.

The show’s format segmented the night into distinct seasonal acts, starting with a “Spring” segment that included “Drop Dead,” “U + Me = <3,” “So American,” and “Good 4 U,” before transitioning through “Summer,” “Autumn,” and “Winter” chapters that intertwined new material with beloved songs from ‘Sour’ and ‘Guts.’ Fan favorites like “Drivers License,” “Deja Vu,” and “Vampire” were sprinkled throughout, providing plenty of sing-along moments for casual listeners alongside deeper cuts.

The night concluded with a brief three-song encore featuring “Deja Vu,” “All-American Bitch,” and “Expectations,” bringing the total setlist to twenty-three songs for the entire performance. Throughout the show, Rodrigo switched between electric guitar and piano while frequently engaging with fans at the barricade.

‘The Unraveled Tour’ is scheduled to continue until May 10, 2027, covering 86 stops across North America and Europe before concluding with a final performance in London. With the opening night already generating significant buzz around its staging and setlist choices, the remainder of the tour appears set to become one of the year’s most discussed pop spectacles.
