‘Crime 101’ Star Halle Berry Discusses Embracing Her New Face and Body at 60
Halle Berry has dedicated recent years to advocating for aging and women’s health, turning a personal health scare into a mission to change societal views on midlife womanhood. Her commitment has intensified as she openly shares her experiences with menopause.
This month, Berry highlighted her mission during a candid discussion about the realities of aging. Instead of avoiding questions about her evolving appearance, the Oscar winner embraced the topic, viewing it as an opportunity for acceptance rather than resistance.
At Create & Cultivate’s “On Her Own Terms: Halle Berry on Menopause, Aging & Women’s Health” panel in Los Angeles on September 20, moderator Jaclyn Johnson prompted Berry to complete a sentence about what she cherishes most about aging. Berry’s response focused on her physical transformation: “My new face and body,” she stated, elaborating on what acceptance means in her daily life.
“It is changing. I look in the mirror every day and I see, ‘Oh God, there’s one thing that wasn’t there last week,’ but what I’m proud of is that I can learn to accept that and not turn myself into a monster with all kinds of things we could do today,” Berry explained during the panel.
Berry’s remarks reflect a broader personal journey she has been sharing publicly for years. She previously revealed being misdiagnosed by her doctor, who initially attributed her perimenopause symptoms to a severe case of herpes instead of recognizing the hormonal changes she was experiencing.
This misdiagnosis was a pivotal moment for Berry, prompting her to establish Respin, a wellness platform dedicated to midlife women’s health and longevity. She has also advocated for policy changes, previously supporting the Advancing Menopause Care and Mid-Life Women’s Health Act, aimed at increasing funding for menopause-related research and treatment.
Berry’s recent remarks about embracing her physical changes are also linked to her latest business endeavors. Her comments about accepting her “new face and body” come just months after her collaboration with Joylux to introduce Juicy Like a Peach, a vaginal dryness gel that she claims has significantly boosted her confidence and improved her sex life.
She has openly discussed her lack of preparation for this particular aspect of menopause, emphasizing that discussing symptoms like vaginal dryness can help eliminate the shame many women experience. “Look, it happens to more than 60 percent of women as we get older. Everything gets dry! If we talk about it and laugh about it, there’s no more shame or embarrassment,” Berry has previously stated.
Her willingness to address traditionally private topics has become a hallmark of Berry’s approach as she navigates this new phase of her career. Rather than shying away from the visible signs of aging, she continues to advocate for a cultural shift in how society perceives women in midlife, celebrating her own evolving reflection as something to be proud of, not hidden.
