Jensen Ackles Shares His Simple Pitch to Bring ‘Supernatural’ Back
Few TV shows boast a fandom as dedicated as ‘Supernatural.’ Even more than five years after its conclusion, fans continue to fill convention halls, share theories, and repeatedly ask the same question. Jensen Ackles’ pitch for a ‘Supernatural’ comeback is the latest response to that inquiry.
The series aired for 15 seasons from 2005 to 2020, chronicling the adventures of brothers Sam and Dean Winchester as they hunted monsters across the United States. It cultivated a massive global fanbase, and its stars have remained connected to it. This loyalty is evident on the convention circuit.
Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins frequently attend fan events as part of Creation Entertainment’s ‘The Road So Far… The Road Ahead’ tour. The most recent stop in Charlotte, North Carolina, took place from September 25 to 27, featuring Ackles and Collins as headliners, although Padalecki was unable to attend.
During a Creation panel captured on video by the fan site Fangasm, Ackles discussed his vision for reviving the show. He expressed a desire for the series to have concluded on a cliffhanger. The clip quickly gained traction online, with CoveredGeekly’s post surpassing 177,000 views.
Ackles’ idea is refreshingly straightforward. He suggested that Jack could walk through the front door, approach Sam and Dean, and inform them that he needs to send them back. This concept leaves the door open for more adventures, with the show’s most powerful character acting as the catalyst.
Jack, portrayed by Alexander Calvert, has always been a wildcard. Introduced as Lucifer’s son in season 13, he began his journey uncertain of himself and the world around him. After being killed by Chuck and resurrected by Death, he aimed to confront God, ultimately becoming God himself.

The series finale remains a contentious topic for some viewers. In ‘Carry On,’ Sam and Dean return to their normal lives of monster hunting until Dean is fatally injured during a fight with vampires. The ending resolved the primary plot points but did not feature a significant cliffhanger.
Ackles’ idea would transform this closed ending into an open invitation for more stories. A knock on the door could provide a compelling reason for a revival.
Ackles isn’t the only one with revival ideas. Padalecki has expressed interest in a limited series event format, akin to the four-episode ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’ on Netflix. Collins has proposed a storyline involving time travel and parallel dimensions.
Creator Eric Kripke has also indicated he would return to ‘Supernatural’ if the right story emerged. Ackles has confirmed his willingness to return, though his busy schedule, particularly with Amazon, makes it challenging to find filming time. The ‘Vought Rising’ prequel is anticipated in 2027.

There is a potential path for a return. ‘The Winchesters’ prequel revealed that it exists in an alternate reality to the original ‘Supernatural’ setting, where a version of Sam and Dean exists in that multiverse. Some commentators argue that the multiverse is the only feasible way for a reboot to succeed.
Jack’s role in Ackles’ pitch aligns perfectly with this concept. As a god capable of reshaping reality, he could feasibly send the brothers anywhere, providing writers with ample creative freedom.
While there has been no official announcement regarding a season 16, the franchise is far from inactive. A new Dynamite comic series set between seasons 1 and 2 follows a monster-of-the-week format, with variant covers featuring Ackles and Padalecki as Dean and Sam.
Fans remain eager for more content. Whether Ackles’ pitch materializes into a real plan depends on schedules, studios, and the right narrative, but the demand is evident. For now, the door remains open, just as Ackles envisioned.
