Dakota Johnson Dazzles at the ‘Verity’ Premiere in a Crystal-Embellished Look

Dakota Johnson has always made bold choices on the red carpet, and her look at the ‘Verity’ premiere is no exception. Partnering with her longtime stylist Kate Young, the duo has showcased their flair for sheer fashion throughout the ‘Verity’ press tour.

Sparkle has been a consistent theme in Johnson’s style. Young previously mentioned that Johnson has a penchant for shiny attire, a taste likely influenced by her mother, Melanie Griffith, who often donned glittering gowns.

At the New York premiere on September 29 at AMC Lincoln Square 13, Johnson wowed in a custom white two-piece from Calvin Klein Collection, adorned with crystal fringe and iridescent sequin embroidery. The high-slit column skirt added to the stunning waterfall effect.

Fashion critics noted that this was her second custom Calvin Klein Collection outfit in just days, following her appearance at the MTV VMAs. One publication remarked that the outfit drew inspiration from the Spring 2027 runway.

Her styling emphasized the fringe, with Johnson sporting her dark hair in blunt bangs, a striking red lip, and matching red nails, complemented by a delicate necklace.

The New York outfit marked a striking contrast to her London appearance on September 24, where she wore a creamy Colleen Allen gown featuring delicate floral lace, with black Fleur du Mal underwear visible underneath.

In contrast, her New York look was decidedly not sheer. Observers noted her progression through color tones, moving from cream in London to blush at the VMAs, and finally to ivory in New York.

Co-star Anne Hathaway dazzled in a custom black Atelier Prabal Gurung gown embellished with floral and crystal bead embroidery, featuring an embroidered sequin skirt with a train. Hathaway, who is expecting her third child, missed the London premiere, making the New York event the first time the trio appeared together during this leg of the tour.

Some fashion experts suggest that the contrasting black and ivory colors were intentional, reflecting the psychological dynamics between their characters. Regardless of the intent, Hathaway’s black gown made Johnson’s ivory fringe stand out even more in photographs.

‘Verity’ is an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s self-published novel from 2018. In the film, Johnson portrays Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who relocates to the secluded Crawford estate to ghostwrite for author Verity Crawford, played by Hathaway.

As Lowen uncovers Verity’s unsettling autobiographical notes, she must confront twisted revelations about Verity’s husband Jeremy, portrayed by Josh Hartnett. Michael Showalter directs the film, with a screenplay by Nick Antosca.

The premiere attracted a full house, with Hathaway, Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Showalter, and Hoover all in attendance. The film is set to hit US theaters on October 2.
