Anne Hathaway Shines in Black Gown at the ‘Verity’ Premiere Closing Her Press Tour

Anne Hathaway has had an incredible year, and her look at the ‘Verity’ premiere perfectly encapsulates it. This event marked the fifth and final press tour of 2026 for the actress, following her appearances for ‘Mother Mary’, ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’, ‘The Odyssey’, and ‘The End of Oak Street’.

Traveling around the world for these campaigns while expecting her third child with husband Adam Shulman, Hathaway has made fashion a key element of her journey, showcasing a variety of styles rather than adhering to a single maternity silhouette.

For ‘The Odyssey’, she embraced Grecian-inspired gowns and fluid shapes, including a stunning Prada look in New York and a blue chiffon Dior gown in London. Earlier in the ‘Verity’ tour, she sported a figure-hugging Cult Gaia dress and a vibrant Carolina Herrera ensemble. At the ‘End of Oak Street’ premiere in August, she combined a sculptural blue halter top and dramatic train from Atelier Prabal Gurung with low-rise jeans.

The New York premiere on September 29 at AMC Lincoln Square 13 marked her first official red carpet appearance for ‘Verity’. Hathaway dazzled in a strapless black custom Atelier Prabal Gurung gown featuring a sweetheart neckline, gracefully accentuating her baby bump. In the evening’s photos, she tenderly cradles her bump as a long train flows behind her.

The fitted bodice transitioned into a voluminous pleated tulle skirt adorned with embroidered sequins. Shredded floral chiffon and crystal-bead embroidery added a shimmering texture, while sheer detailing ensured the look was anything but typical for a maternity gown.

Given that ‘Verity’ is a psychological thriller, the choice of black was fitting, yet the gown felt refreshingly unique. Fashion critics noted that the sculpted silhouette marked a shift from the flowing styles she had favored during her pregnancy.

Hathaway’s styling emphasized the dress, with her hair styled in a high ponytail and Bvlgari jewels completing the ensemble, curated by stylist Erin Walsh. One fashion outlet even ranked it among her top two looks of the year.

The color choice also created a striking contrast with co-star Dakota Johnson, who wore a custom ivory Calvin Klein Collection two-piece embellished with crystal fringe. Hathaway’s black gown made Johnson’s fringe appear even more vibrant in photographs.

Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Córdova, director Michael Showalter, screenwriter Nick Antosca, and author Colleen Hoover were also in attendance. Hathaway had missed the London premiere earlier in the tour, making the New York carpet a significant reunion for the lead cast.

Pregnancy has influenced her promotional activities in various ways. In the film, Hathaway portrays bestselling author Verity Crawford and appears in character on the online interview series ‘Hot Ones’. She shared that she and the production team actually consumed the first three wings before switching to dummy wings.

Although she had hoped to participate in the real ‘Hot Ones’ challenge for press, her doctor advised against it due to the spicy food potentially triggering early labor. On the ‘Talk of the Townsends’ podcast, she expressed her desire to take on the challenge at some point, possibly next year.

The film is set to open in U.S. theaters on October 2, and Hathaway has mentioned her intention to take a break from work once it premieres. She humorously remarked that she would quickly disappear following the release.

She is expected to resume filming in March 2027 for ‘Days of Thunder 2’ alongside Tom Cruise. Before that, a memorable moment from the premiere circulated online, showcasing Hathaway ensuring the group photo went smoothly.
