‘X-Men’ Star Samara Weaving Shares Casual Selfie Amidst Her Busy 2026
Samara Weaving has carved out a unique niche in modern genre filmmaking. The Australian actress began her career on television, transitioned into horror, and has become one of the most recognizable faces in the genre. Her 2026 has been so eventful that even a simple social media post garners significant attention.
Weaving’s journey started on Australian television with the series ‘Out of the Blue’ in 2008, followed by her role in the soap opera ‘Home and Away’ from 2009 to 2013. She made her feature film debut in the 2013 crime drama ‘Mystery Road’, alongside her uncle, actor Hugo Weaving. Her breakthrough came in 2017 with standout performances in ‘Mayhem’ and ‘The Babysitter’, along with a supporting role in ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’.

The latest photo making rounds is a laid-back selfie. Weaving posted a casual shot on Instagram wearing a graphic T-shirt that adds a relaxed vibe to the image. The white tee features red trim at the collar and a whimsical heart-and-doll graphic, as she posed with her phone in front of a mirror.
This relaxed moment contrasts sharply with her busy year. Weaving’s 2026 has included a significant franchise sequel, a streaming success, and a Marvel casting announcement. Female First’s news updates also highlight that she welcomed a baby girl in June.
The most notable news came on July 31, when Deadline reported that Weaving would portray Emma Frost in Marvel Studios’ upcoming ‘X-Men’ movie. Variety confirmed the casting, stating that the film will be directed by Jake Schreier, who previously directed ‘Thunderbolts’. The cast also features Kit Connor, Sadie Sink, Christopher Abbott, Inde Navarrette, and Maya Boyd.
According to Deadline, Weaving’s audition was unmatched in the search for Frost. In comic book lore, the character has transitioned from supervillain to superhero throughout her extensive history. The film is anticipated to release in 2028.
Weaving hasn’t abandoned horror, either. She reprised her role as Grace in ‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’, released in 2026 and directed by the Radio Silence duo, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Kathryn Newton joins her as Grace’s sister, Faith, and Weaving also took on the role of executive producer.
She also starred alongside Jason Segel in ‘Over Your Dead Body’, an R-rated remake of the Norwegian thriller ‘The Trip’. Collider reported that the film achieved a 50-day streaming milestone, with the outlet noting that Weaving’s efforts to establish herself as the best scream queen of our time were bolstered by two slasher films in 2026. Additionally, ‘Carolina Caroline’, where she plays a woman entangled with a charming con man portrayed by Kyle Gallner, has received a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Her project list continues to expand. Deadline revealed that Weaving will lead the environmental thriller ‘Hivemind’ alongside Nicholas Braun from ‘Succession’. Directed by CiarĂ¡n Foy and currently filming in Dublin, the film revolves around a new breed of killer wasps and the small-town authorities who unite to prevent a global outbreak.
Amazon MGM Studios has joined ‘Hivemind’ and plans to stream it internationally on Prime Video. Other projects in the pipeline include the action thriller ‘Bella’ for Paramount and a film about Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte titled ‘Liz’. The original ‘Ready or Not’ is also available for streaming on Netflix.
What distinguishes Weaving is her ability to balance horror with humor. ‘Ready or Not’ established her as a scream queen in 2019, and she has since taken on roles in ‘Bill & Ted Face the Music’, ‘The Babysitter: Killer Queen’, ‘Scream VI’, ‘Azrael’, and ‘Borderline’. This versatility provided Marvel with ample evidence of her capability to handle both the drama and comedy required in a superhero ensemble.
Collider noted that this year marks nearly a decade since her first major U.S.-made films were released. Over this period, she has evolved from supporting roles to leading parts, and now to a major franchise. A casual selfie may seem like a small moment, but it arrives at a time when her fans have much to anticipate.
