This year, ComplexCon celebrated its 10th anniversary with its debut in Los Angeles. The festival took place on October 3 and 4 at the Los Angeles Convention Center and Crypto.com Arena, featuring over 300 brands across 500,000 square feet of exhibition space. Artistic directors Hiroshi Fujiwara and Playboi Carti led this milestone edition, which also showcased the latest moment from Callina Liang at the ‘Street Fighter’ booth.

One of the most popular attractions was the ‘Street Fighter’ movie booth, which embraced the arcade roots of the games. Attendees could enjoy playing ‘Street Fighter II’ on retro cabinets, take photos with a life-sized replica of the Bonus Stage car, and shop an exclusive collection from Fujiwara’s Fragment Design label, including hoodies, tees, and totes. The film is set to hit theaters and IMAX on October 16.

Star power was evident this weekend as Callina Liang was spotted at the ‘Street Fighter’ booth during ComplexCon 2026, as shared in a post by Cinethology on October 4. The photos captured the actress alongside the arcade machines and booth signage, perfectly fitting for the face of one of the franchise’s most iconic characters.

Event coverage had hinted at surprise cast appearances throughout the weekend. Liang portrays Chun-Li in the live-action film, making her presence at the booth a natural draw for the enthusiastic crowd.

Born on May 14, 2000, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Liang spent her childhood in Beijing, Sydney, and Singapore. She made her television debut in 2022 with the ITVX series ‘Tell Me Everything’, followed by roles in ‘Presence’ and ‘Bad Genius’ in 2024. She has also appeared in ‘Foundation’.

Liang was cast as Chun-Li in June 2025, placing her at the center of one of the year’s most anticipated video game adaptations. Fans have closely followed her journey, especially with set photos showcasing her in the character’s signature blue outfit, hair buns, and spiked wrist cuffs, which garnered significant attention online.

To prepare for her role, Liang reportedly engaged in about two hours of daily training across three disciplines: Taekwondo, Muay Thai, and Wushu. She focused on mastering Chun-Li’s kick-heavy fighting style, studying the character’s moves in slow motion to accurately recreate them.

Her training regimen included a bulking phase with a diet of 12 eggs per day, resulting in a 6.5-centimeter increase in her thigh size by the end of filming. This level of dedication aligns with Chun-Li’s status as one of gaming’s most iconic fighters.

Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the film is set in 1993 and follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters, portrayed by Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo. Chun-Li recruits them to participate in the next World Warrior Tournament, where they uncover dark secrets and confront M. Bison, played by David Dastmalchian.

The cast also features Jason Momoa as Blanka, Cody Rhodes as Guile, 50 Cent as Balrog, and Roman Reigns as Akuma. Produced by Legendary Pictures and Capcom, with Paramount Pictures handling distribution, principal photography took place in Australia from August 18 to November 12, 2025, under the working title ‘Punch’.

The promotional campaign has emphasized interactivity, with a teaser poster and trailer debuting at The Game Awards in December 2025, followed by a trailer at CinemaCon. The studios later introduced what they termed the first playable full-length movie trailer on YouTube, and a screening in Tokyo launched the global World Warrior Tour.

Online reactions have been mixed yet vibrant. Many fans have lauded Liang’s portrayal of Chun-Li, with some humorously stating they would watch the film solely for her performance, while earlier discussions raised concerns about casting decisions, the script, and the film’s direction.

With the premiere just around the corner, ComplexCon provides an early glimpse into how the film resonates with its audience. The combination of streetwear collaborations, arcade gameplay, and cast appearances suggests a movie designed specifically for fans of the games. The effectiveness of this strategy will soon be revealed, as early international screenings are scheduled in France on October 14 and other countries on October 15.
