With less than two weeks remaining until ‘Street Fighter’ hits theaters, Capcom’s iconic fighters are making waves everywhere. From trailers and arcade booths to fashion collaborations and cast photocalls, the film’s promotional campaign is one of the busiest of the season, and Callina Liang has emerged as a prominent face in the ‘Street Fighter’ press cycle.

The campaign kicked off globally with a Tokyo screening that launched the World Warrior Tour, accompanied by a playable trailer on YouTube. Since then, the cast has traversed through London and Los Angeles, with each stop generating fresh images for fans to analyze.

The latest set of images comes from Cinethology, which shared photos of Callina Liang for ‘Street Fighter’ press on October 3. One photo captures her leaning against a wall in a fitted corset-style bodice with lace detailing and an asymmetrical skirt featuring a floral lace hem, her hair elegantly pulled back. Another image shows her seated in the same outfit, with camera equipment visible behind her.

This polished look continues a series of high-profile appearances for the actress portraying Chun-Li. During a press event on October 2, she donned a glossy red satin halter top with a scarf tied at the neck and delicate chains, her hair slicked back.

Liang has been actively involved in the promotional efforts across multiple cities. On October 1, she joined castmates Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji, and Olivier Richters at a ‘Street Fighter’ photocall on Leake Street in London.

Shortly after, the film took over ComplexCon in Los Angeles, featuring a booth with retro arcade cabinets, a life-sized Bonus Stage car, and an exclusive collection from Hiroshi Fujiwara’s Fragment Design label. Liang was photographed at the booth, reinforcing the idea that Chun-Li is the face of this campaign.

The press appearances starkly contrast with the gritty version of Chun-Li depicted on screen. A behind-the-scenes image released in September showed her blue outfit scuffed and torn, with dirt and marks across her arms.

Reports indicate that the filmmakers drew inspiration from the ‘Street Fighter II’ aesthetic rather than later, more elaborate designs, which explains the studded collar and signature hairstyle. Liang has also been photographed in the blue spiked outfit during the Japan tour.

The preparation for Liang to embody Chun-Li, the kick-heavy fighter beloved by fans, has been rigorous. She trained for about two hours daily in Taekwondo, Muay Thai, and Wushu, focusing on leg strength and studying every version of ‘Street Fighter’ on PlayStation 5 to master the character’s moves. Reports also mention her consuming 12 eggs daily during a bulking phase.

Liang was cast in June 2025, with filming taking place from August to November 2025 in Australia. The movie reportedly operated under the working title ‘Punch’.

Set in 1993, the story follows estranged fighters Ryu and Ken Masters, portrayed by Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo, who are recruited by Chun-Li for the next World Warrior Tournament. Their journey unveils a deadly conspiracy involving M. Bison, played by David Dastmalchian.

The cast also features Jason Momoa, Cody Rhodes, 50 Cent, Roman Reigns, and Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki. Director Kitao Sakurai has taken over from the original filmmakers, marking this as the third live-action adaptation of the franchise.

Online reactions have been loud yet mixed. While fan responses to the broader cast have been varied since the announcement, many viewers have praised Liang’s portrayal of Chun-Li, joking they would watch the movie just for her. Others have expressed concerns regarding the script and direction, noting the film’s casting strategy relies on talent from wrestling and MMA backgrounds to enhance the authenticity of the fight scenes. The true test will come when audiences experience it on the big screen, with the opening weekend revealing whether the marketing blitz translates into ticket sales.

‘Street Fighter’ is set to arrive in U.S. theaters and IMAX on October 16, distributed by Paramount Pictures and produced by Legendary Pictures and Capcom. Some countries will see it slightly earlier, including France on October 14.
