Fans of the franchise can finally rejoice as Paramount+ is set to release ‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ globally on Friday, October 9. This exciting announcement was made during a panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, where creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko also discussed the film ‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’.

This new chapter arrives sooner than many anticipated. The first half of the year was quite tumultuous for fans, making the confirmation of the sequel series a delightful surprise. Here’s everything you need to know before ‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ makes its debut.

Originally, the October release slot was intended for ‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’. However, due to a scheduling change prompted by an online leak, ‘Seven Havens’ took over the film’s previous release date of October 9.

The leak cast a significant shadow over the franchise this year. The same hackers who leaked the film claimed to have access to the series, which had yet to receive an official release date from Paramount. Around the same time, Paramount also canceled plans for a large roleplaying game set in the Avatar universe.

The film has since premiered, with ‘Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender’ debuting on Paramount+ on Saturday, July 25. This leaves the new series to carry the franchise into the fall.

You can watch the series on Paramount+, where it premieres on October 9. However, viewers in some regions may face challenges, as Paramount+ does not officially operate in Ukraine, and no alternative release has been announced there.

For those hoping for a weekend binge, plans should be adjusted. The series will be released weekly in groups of three episodes, starting with three episodes on Friday, October 9, followed by episodes 4 through 6 on October 16 and episodes 7 through 9 on October 23. The first book will conclude with episodes 10 through 13 on October 30.

The rollout of episodes has been a moving target, with conflicting reports about the release schedule. An early claim that all 26 episodes would drop at once has been clarified as incorrect. Variety has also confirmed that the initial information regarding a simultaneous release of every episode was erroneous.

The show consists of 26 half-hour episodes divided into two books. A weekly release schedule allows the fandom to stay engaged throughout October, fostering discussions and speculation about Book Two.

The official storyline presents a rather bleak premise. It follows a young Earthbender who discovers she is the new Avatar after Korra, in a world devastated by a catastrophic event that has led many to view her as humanity’s destroyer rather than its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit adversaries, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their origins and save the Seven Havens before the last strongholds fall.

Set 225 years after the conclusion of ‘The Legend of Korra’, the series embraces a distinctly high fantasy aesthetic, allowing the creators to explore new narratives. The first trailer reveals a world ravaged by an apocalyptic disaster, with Korra being blamed for the devastation, resulting in a populace that harbors animosity towards the Avatar. The tone appears quite dark, yet the main character is a child, reminiscent of Aang, creating an intriguing contrast.

The voice cast features two newcomers to the franchise: Saheli Khan as Pavi and Aishu Devan as her twin Nisha. The cast also includes Akshay Khanna, Major Curda, Sakina Jaffrey, Darren Barnet, Dianne Doan, and Dee Bradley Baker.

Behind the scenes, the original creators are back in action. DiMartino and Konietzko serve as co-creators and executive producers, alongside Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi. Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios are producing the series.

This impressive pedigree is significant, given the franchise’s origins. The original ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ premiered in 2005, quickly becoming one of the most acclaimed animated series in history, followed by ‘The Legend of Korra’ in 2012. With Korra seemingly blamed for a fractured world, will Pavi ever be able to regain humanity’s trust in the Avatar, or is it too late for the Seven Havens to forgive?
