‘Batman: Knightfall’ Sequel Reveals Motion Poster Featuring Azrael’s Armored Cowl in ‘Knightquest’
DC’s R-rated animated adaptation of one of the most iconic Batman stories is progressing rapidly. ‘Batman: Knightfall’ is being told across three films, and the middle chapter is now teasing its arrival. The latest promotional piece provides a stylish glimpse at the new Dark Knight, indicating that the narrative is about to take a darker turn.
The first installment concluded with Gotham in turmoil and Bruce Wayne incapacitated. Now, the sequel prepares to address a simple yet unsettling question: who will don the cowl next?
A five-second motion poster for ‘Batman Knightfall Part 2: Knightquest’ has been unveiled, marked “Coming Soon to Digital.” The artwork showcases a heavily armored Batman in blue and gold, with glowing red eyes and lightning crackling in the background. The title treatment is prominently displayed at the center, featuring the subtitle “Knightquest.”
This design represents a significant departure from the traditional Batman aesthetic, which is precisely the intention. This iteration of the character is crafted to feel more violent and unpredictable than the hero Gotham is accustomed to.

The film picks up directly from the first part, with Bruce Wayne left paralyzed after his confrontation with Bane. Jean-Paul Valley, also known as Azrael, assumes the mantle of Batman to protect Gotham. The official synopsis raises the question of whether his more violent methods will suffice to stop Bane.
Reports indicate that the story will shift focus from a direct confrontation with Bane to themes of identity, responsibility, and the repercussions of replacing Bruce Wayne. Jean-Paul’s increasingly brutal tactics create a new threat of their own.
A trailer was released on September 19, coinciding with Batman Day, showcasing Jean-Paul’s armored Batman suit alongside Dick Grayson as Nightwing, who aids Gotham. Fans can also anticipate classic villains, with Two-Face highlighted as a potential standout. The trailer for Part 1, presented at the Annecy festival, also featured the Joker, Mister Freeze, Scarecrow, and the Riddler.
The footage emphasizes the heavier tone that the marketing has consistently highlighted. Warner Bros. is clearly positioning this as a bloodier and more brutal interpretation of Gotham, with the R rating allowing filmmakers to explore violence more freely.
Anson Mount voices Bruce Wayne and Batman, Michael Mando portrays Bane, and Pablo Schreiber voices Jean-Paul Valley and Azrael. The cast also includes Jack Griffo as Tim Drake and Robin, Bruce Boxleitner as Commissioner Gordon, and Simon Templeman as Alfred Pennyworth. Toks Olagundoye is credited as Shondra Kinsolving.
Nightwing appears in the trailer, although the actor voicing him has not yet been revealed, leaving his role as one of the unanswered questions leading up to the release. The complete cast for the sequel has not been confirmed, suggesting that more names could still be added.

‘Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall’ premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 23 and became available digitally on August 25. A physical release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD followed on September 8. Directed by Jeff Wamester and written by Jeremy Adams, it is rated R for strong bloody violence and adapts the beginning of the 1993 comic event.
In that film, Bane unleashes Arkham Asylum’s inmates to wear Batman down, then attacks him at Wayne Manor and breaks his back. The conclusion leaves Gotham without its protector, setting the stage for everything that follows.
While a specific release date for the sequel has not been announced, it is anticipated later this year. The poster’s “Coming Soon to Digital” label suggests it will follow a similar path as the first film. There is also no information regarding its availability on HBO Max, with no date set as of yet.
The third film, ‘KnightsEnd’, is slated for early 2027, completing the trilogy. An executive has reportedly stated that the story is so significant that it requires three films to convey.
