The breakup between Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello has remained a hot topic in Hollywood. The couple, who met in 2014 and tied the knot in Palm Beach in 2015, were once one of the most photographed pairs in the industry before announcing their separation in July 2023.

Since then, both have seemingly moved on. Manganiello has been linked to actress Caitlin O’Connor, while Vergara was rumored to be dating orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman, later stating she was single and enjoying life. For a time, it appeared that the situation had settled into a quiet truce.

However, that truce was disrupted recently. On October 7, excerpts from Manganiello’s memoir, ‘Bloodlines’, were released through People, revealing a troubling narrative about the latter part of their marriage. He discusses a seven-year battle with autoimmune issues that nearly claimed his life, noting that his health began to decline shortly after their wedding.

In these excerpts, Manganiello claims that Vergara refused to hug him when he asked and mocked the puppy he credits with helping him during a suicidal phase. He describes their marriage as emotionally hollow as his health deteriorated. He also mentions undergoing surgery to reconnect his digestive tract.

The memoir revisits the reasons behind their split. Vergara has long maintained that their marriage ended because he wanted children while she did not want to become an older mother. Manganiello reveals that they had discussed using egg donors after unsuccessful IVF attempts, but he ultimately abandoned the idea during his illness, fearing he might leave her with a child that wasn’t biologically hers.

Then, on October 9, TMZ reported that Vergara had posted about narcissistic men, outlining the signs to look for, just days after the memoir excerpts were made public.

The timing led some to interpret the post as a subtle jab at her ex-husband, although it remains a general social media commentary rather than a direct reply. The report noted that Manganiello had been approached regarding her post.

This isn’t the first instance of conflicting narratives from the ex-couple. In July 2024, Manganiello told Men’s Journal that Vergara’s explanation was inaccurate, stating that they had attempted to start a family in the first 18 months of their marriage but simply grew apart.

Vergara dismissed that earlier claim when questioned by Variety, expressing skepticism about whether he had even made that statement. Her cool, almost dismissive response starkly contrasts with the emotional weight of the memoir.

On the legal front, their divorce proceedings were relatively quiet. Manganiello filed for divorce shortly after their split announcement, with both citing irreconcilable differences and a prenup in place. The case was settled amicably in early 2024.

This calm backdrop makes the memoir’s revelations all the more striking. When they announced their separation, both expressed love and care for one another and requested privacy as they entered a new chapter. However, ‘Bloodlines’ presents a very different narrative of their final years together.

Vergara, recognized for her role in ‘Modern Family’ and her judging position on ‘America’s Got Talent’, has not publicly addressed the memoir excerpts as of now. Meanwhile, Manganiello, known for his work in ‘True Blood’ and ‘Magic Mike’, is sharing some of his most intimate experiences in his writing. As the full book becomes available, more revelations are likely to emerge.

For now, public interest in their story continues to grow. Whether Vergara will confront the memoir directly or allow her social media posts to speak for her remains to be seen.
