Jessica Biel Stuns in All-Black Look During ‘Matchbox’ Press Run as Film Releases on Apple TV
Jessica Biel has maintained a low profile in recent years, making her public appearances particularly noteworthy. According to reports, ‘Matchbox The Movie’ is the first project she has promoted in 2026, likely making it her only one this year. Her last screen role was in the series ‘The Better Sister’ in 2025.
This makes the film’s press run a significant moment for the actress. ‘Matchbox The Movie’ premiered on Apple TV on Friday, October 9, following a promotional tour that included the full cast. The ensemble features John Cena, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, and Arturo Castro.
Recent promotional images showcase Biel in a sleek, minimalist black outfit. In one photo, she stands next to a sunlit window wearing a black halter-neck top, her hair styled in a high ponytail, with a drop earring catching the light. Another moodier close-up captures her looking directly at the camera, her hair pulled back and soft shadows accentuating her features.
The styling is understated and elegant, avoiding bold colors or heavy accessories. Instead, the clean lines and warm light create a striking visual that contrasts with the film’s energetic premise.

In the days leading up to the release, the cast has been quite active. Apple Original Films hosted a special screening at Toreo Parque Central in Mexico City on October 2, where Biel, Cena, Richardson, Parris, and Castro were all present. Just three days later, they walked the red carpet at the world premiere at AMC Lincoln Square in New York.

Biel’s husband, Justin Timberlake, was reportedly in town to support her at the New York premiere but did not join her on the carpet. The focus remained on the cast, who had previously appeared together at the Apple TV Press Day in February, where first-look images were revealed. The first trailer also debuted in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con.
The film draws inspiration from Mattel’s iconic die-cast toy cars but does not center on talking vehicles. Instead, it follows a group of childhood friends whose lives are disrupted when Sean, an undercover CIA agent played by Cena, returns to their small town. His unexpected arrival drags them into a frantic international chase to save the world.
Biel portrays Aimee, with Richardson as Crosby, Castro as Ted, and Parris as Charmaine. The cast also includes Corey Stoll, Bill Camp, Golshifteh Farahani, Danai Gurira, Daniel Bernhardt, and Randeep Hooda. The film is rated PG-13, runs for 2 hours and 6 minutes, and is categorized by Apple as both an action and comedy.

Directed by Sam Hargrave, known for his work on the ‘Extraction’ films, the movie is a collaboration between Apple Original Films, Skydance Media, and Mattel Studios. The screenplay was written by David Coggeshall, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger producing for Skydance, alongside Mattel’s Ynon Kreiz and Robbie Brenner.
The Matchbox brand has a rich history dating back to 1953 when inventor Jack Odell created a toy small enough to fit in a matchbox for his daughter. The brand later became part of Mattel’s lineup. This film marks the next release from Mattel following the Oscar-winning ‘Barbie’.

Apple has not announced a traditional theatrical release for ‘Matchbox’, allowing it to go straight to streaming. For Apple TV, this film represents a broad, accessible title that extends beyond the service’s reputation for prestige dramas. For Biel, it signifies a high-profile return after a quieter period.
With the press tour concluded and the film now available for streaming, her black-on-black photos serve as a polished final touch, demonstrating how a simple look can effectively capture attention.
