‘Adolescence’ Tops Streaming Charts, While ‘Severance’ and ‘The White Lotus’ Hit New Highs
Netflix’s new series Adolescence has taken the top spot on the Nielsen streaming charts for the week of March 17 to March 23. In its first full week, the show had 1.44 billion minutes viewed, making it the most-watched streaming title during that time.

According to Nielsen, the show’s viewership jumped 59% compared to its debut weekend. Interestingly, adults aged 35-64 made up 56% of the viewers.
Coming in second place was The Residence, which premiered on March 20 and reached 1.36 billion minutes watched. This is a solid start, although some expected even more given that it’s from Shonda Rhimes, the creator behind hits like Bridgerton and Inventing Anna. It’s worth noting that The Residence has longer episodes, which helps boost total minutes viewed.
Reacher dropped to fourth place with 1.13 billion minutes, but it was still one of only two original streaming series in the overall Top 5.
Other shows also had great weeks:
- Severance hit a new weekly record with 876 million minutes, thanks to its Season 2 finale.
- The White Lotus also broke its own viewership record, bringing in 973 million minutes.
HBO Max’s The Pitt finally broke into the Top 10 Originals chart with 466 million minutes viewed, after narrowly missing it in recent weeks.

Movies also did well this week. Moana 2 continued to dominate, earning 1.13 billion minutes viewed. It’s been a strong performer since hitting streaming. Coming in second was Wicked, with 905 million minutes viewed.
