After ‘Reacher’, Spinoff ‘Neagley’ Receives Early Renewal for Season 2
Few Prime Video series have proven as dependable as ‘Reacher.’ Since its debut in 2022, the action drama led by Alan Ritchson has reportedly attracted over 200 million viewers globally. The fourth season alone garnered 66 million viewers worldwide within its first 28 days, surpassing the performance of the third season.
This success has led to a consistent flow of early renewals. Prime Video renewed ‘Reacher’ for Season 5 in May, even before Season 4 premiered, and announced a sixth season on Monday, just under two weeks after the Season 4 finale. This marks the first time the show has received two renewals in the same year, with Season 5 commencing production in late July in Toronto.
Now, the franchise’s spinoff is also receiving similar treatment. According to Deadline, Amazon has renewed ‘Neagley’ for a second season, following the ‘Reacher’ news. The series, starring Maria Sten as Frances Neagley, was renewed just two weeks after all episodes were released.
The viewership numbers support this decision. ‘Neagley’ premiered on Prime Video on September 16, coinciding with the ‘Reacher’ Season 4 finale, and Amazon reports that the first season attracted 40 million viewers within its first 13 days. While the company does not specify how it calculates viewership, it notes that ‘Neagley’ is the fourth most-viewed original series debut in Prime Video’s history, with 52% of its audience coming from outside the US.
Season 1 follows Sten’s Neagley as she investigates the suspicious death of a close friend, leading her to seek justice. As a private investigator in Chicago, she uncovers potential conspiracies involving a pharmaceutical company and a black market operation linked to a commune. The narrative draws on her background as Reacher’s protégé in the Army and a member of the 110 Special Investigators.
Sten leads a cast that includes Greyston Holt, Adeline Rudolph, Jasper Jones, Matthew Del Negro, and Damon Herriman. Ritchson makes a guest appearance as Jack Reacher, although his role in the first season is limited to a cameo. This choice is significant as the series is designed to stand independently from its parent show.
Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, stated that audiences worldwide have embraced Frances Neagley as a compelling character in her own right. He praised Sten’s nuanced performance and credited creators Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton for crafting a thrilling and engaging world. Friedlander expressed excitement about continuing the story with their partners at Paramount Television Studios.

Santora and Wootton serve as co-showrunners and executive producers alongside Lee Child, Don Granger, Sam Hill, Adam Higgs, and Lisa Kussner. The show is based on a character from Child’s Jack Reacher novels and is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Amazon MGM Studios. Santora also developed ‘Reacher’ and serves as its showrunner.

The renewal raises intriguing questions for Season 2. The conclusion of Season 1 leaves room for Neagley’s return, and viewers will be eager to see how her storyline intertwines with the main series. With ‘Reacher’ now renewed through Season 6, Santora may find opportunities to give both Sten and Ritchson more screen time in their respective narratives.
For now, Amazon seems confident in the potential for expansion within this universe. The two renewals in quick succession indicate that the studio views ‘Reacher’ and ‘Neagley’ as complementary elements of the same franchise rather than rivals.
