Alan Cumming Seemingly Teases Nightcrawler vs. Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Marvel Studios recently revealed 27 names that will appear in the highly anticipated crossover movie, Avengers: Doomsday.
Some names, like Vanessa Kirby, Pedro Pascal, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn, were expected, especially considering Fantastic Four history with Doctor Doom. Other names were more surprising, with nearly the entire Thunderbolts* cast, excluding Taskmaster, set to have a role in the film. Additionally, Lewis Pullman’s Sentry was confirmed to appear.
However, the biggest shock came when former X-Men stars like Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart were revealed to be reprising their iconic roles, alongside James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Alan Cumming.
Cumming played Nightcrawler in only one movie: X2: X-Men United (2003).
Even though fans loved his performance, he did not return for later X-Men movies. The main reason was that the heavy blue makeup and long hours of preparation were difficult for him.
Now, the actor admitted that the makeup process is more streamlined and barely takes any time, so he was more than glad to return to his superhero roots.
Cumming recently discussed his to the role again and the actor seemingly revealed something very interesting, that he will go up against Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards. The “spoiler” started innoncet enough with Cumming being asked about his most iconic role:
“Well, right now, especially right now, cuz I’m doing it again, The X-Men film” he said. “Like I’m playing Nightcrawler again now. I’m just working with these….learning stunts yesterday for the fight…some fight scene. And I just think, I’m 60 years old, 23 years ago I played that superhero. I was kinda old for that superhero even then and now I’m back doing it, and I just..that to me is hilarious.
And then he dropped it:
“And I’m sort of learning these fights. I’m like, what, who am I fighting with? “I said you’re fighting…you’re hitting Pedro Pascal against the head or something.””
This is quite the revelation, but it’s honestly not that surprising overall, since we had suspicions that Avengers, New Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men won’t be just able to co-exist peacefully once their realities start colliding.
Cumming also repeated that he can’t believe he is back in the role again, especially taking into account how much he hated it.
“Things come back, they always do, and people come back and it’s actually a nice thing about getting older” he said.
