Anime characters have covered every letter of the Alphabet. No letter is left out because there are several iconic names that begin in letters you wouldn’t expect. For this article, let’s look at the letter G and some of the most influential anime characters under it.
Gaara (Naruto)
Gaara is a jinchuriki of Shukaku who hails from Sunagakure. Because of holding the beast, he grew up being outcast by everyone to the point he only cared about keeping himself alive. After his first fight with Naruto, he learned to love his village and himself and strove to be a better shinobi for his people. He became the Fifth Kazekage of Suna.
Gourry Gabriev (Slayers)
Gourry might be one of the strongest characters anyone would come across, but the problem is he isn’t too bright. This causes him to be one of the comic relief characters in Slayers.
Genjo Sanzo (Sayuki)
Genjo is a prominent character in Sayuki. He is a Buddhist Priest and serves as the leader of his traveling group. He gathered three other characters together under the orders of the Three Aspects and the Merciful Goddess.
Gohan (Dragonball)
Gohan is one of the half-saiyan sons of Goku in the series Dragon Ball Z. Goku and Chi-chi named him after grandpa Gohan, a character who found and raised a young Goku during Dragon Ball. He is the eldest among two half-saiyan sons and married Videl. The two are later revealed to have a daughter named Pan.
Goku (Dragon Ball)
Goku is the main character of the overall Dragonball series. He is a full-breed Saiyan who was raised on Earth by Master Gohan. However, because of a head injury, he lost his Saiyan nature to destroy things and instead grew up becoming Earth’s number one defender.
Goten (Dragon Ball Z)
Goten is the younger half-saiyan brother of Gohan and the youngest son of Goku and Chichi. As a child, he resembles how Goku used to look during his childhood. He was born after the Cell Games, so he never met his father until the Buu Saga of the series. He was stronger than Gohan and Goku when they were his age in the series. Unlike his older brother, who was discouraged from doing martial arts, Chi-chi took the liberty of training Goten instead of pushing him to become a scholar.
Gogeta (Dragon Ball Z)
Gogeta is one of the fusion forms of Goku and Vegeta. In the Dragonball universe, he is considered to be his own character as he has his own mind and personality that are even different from Vegito.
Griffith (Berserk)
Griffith is a character from Berserk and is the current leader of a group of mercenaries called the Band of the Falcons. Guts, a strong warrior, eventually joined his group, and together, they managed to put a stop to the Hundred-Year War plaguing the kingdom of Midland. He is celebrated as a hero until he sleeps with Princess Charlotte and gets punished for this action.
Guts (Berserk)
Guts is hailed as the Black Swordsman who has been a traveling solo warrior for some time until he meets the leader of the Band of the Falcons, Griffith, who defeats him in a duel. After that, he joined the mercenary group and became a key player in ending the Hundred-Year War. However, he shortly left the group to find his own dream.
Gon Freecss (Hunter X Hunter)
Gon is the son of Ging Freecss and serves as the main character for most of the Hunter x Hunter story arcs. He leaves his island at a young age because he wants to learn more about his father, who had left his family to pursue becoming a Hunter.
Guy Cecila/ Gailardia Galan Gardios (Tales of the Abyss)
It is a character from the video-game-turned anime Tales of the Abyss. He is the best friend and servant of Luke. His true identity is actually the lost heir to the House of Gardios, who was believed to be dead during the fall of Hod. Due to the incident, Guy developed his gynophobia which causes him to be scared of women.
Gary Oak (Pokemon)
Gary Oak is a recurring character in the Pokemon series. He is the grandson of Professor Oak and the first rival of Ash until he decided to focus on Pokemon research. Gary started the first part of the series as arrogant and disrespectful. However, this all changed after he lost against Melissa in a Pokemon League.
Gray Michael Vincent (Battle B-Daman)
Gray is a friend Yamato met during the start of his career as a B-daman player. He was a former member of the Shadow Alliance due to the group keeping his sister captive. Eventually, Lianna managed to get saved, and Gray finally left the Shadow Alliance for good.
Gomamon (Digimon Adventure)
Gomamon is the Digimon partner of Joe Kido in Digimon Adventure. Unlike his partner, Gomamamon is more carefree and constantly looking for a good time. His goal as a partner is to get his human partner to worry less and learn to have fun.
Gabumon (Digimon Adventure)
Gabon is the Digimon partner of Matt/Yamato Ishida. He is noted to be extremely loyal and supportive of Matt’s decisions, even if it is sometimes the wrong one. However, he tries to convince Matt to change his mind and is ready to rescue Matt if Matt lets his insecurities and doubts win him over.
Giyu Tomioka (Demon Slayer)
Giyu is one of Hashira in the Demon Slayer Corps. He served as the Corps’ Water Hashira and was one of the last remaining members to survive the fight against Muzan. He is also the first hashira of the Corps Tanjiro and Nezuko have met.
Gyro Zeppeli (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures)
Gyro is the main character of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures: Street Ball Run. He comes from the Kingdom of Naples and is a master of a special technique called Spin.
Gilgamesh (Fate/ Stay Night)
Gilgamesh is a recurring servant character in the Fate series and overall franchise. Fans are familiar with Gilgamesh from the first Fate series, Fate Stay Night. Gilgamesh is an archer class servant in all three routes and is a major antagonist in the first two stories. In another Fate series called Grand Order, the main characters encounter Gilgamesh in both his caster form and archer form.
Ginko (Mushishi)
His real name is Yoki. Ginko is the main character of Mushishi. He is a wanderer who travels around solving Mushi cases. He was raised by a Mushishi named Nui, who was observing a mushi called “Ginko” at that time. One incident caused the pair to separate, and Yoki lost all his memories except the word “Ginko.” Since it was the only word he could remember, he had decided to call himself that.
Goh (Pokemon)
Goh is one of the protagonists and current traveling companions of Ash in Pokemon Journeys. Goh’s dream is to catch one of each of every type of pokemon, including mew. He is a long-time friend of Chloe. According to her, Goh has a tendency to skip classes to walk around town. His first ever pokemon is a Scorbunny.

Gintoki used to be a well-respected samurai who had a history of fighting in the Joui War. However, since aliens invaded the earth, Gintoki now takes odd jobs in order to survive.
Gakushu (Assassination Classroom)
Gakushu is the top student in Kunugigaoka Junior High School and the leader of a group called the Big five. He is also the son of the Board Chairman of the school. He is one of the academic antagonists in the series who competes with Karma. At the end of the series, he is seen helping Class 3-E escape the press and enjoy their graduation together.
Gin Ichimaru (Bleach)
Before betraying the Soul Society, Gin was the 3rd Division’s captain of the Gotei 13.
Gray Fullbuster (Fairy Tail)
Gray is a mage member of the Fairy Tail Guild and one of Natsu’s rivals. He is proficient in Ice Molding Magic and Ice Devil Slayer Magic. Like most of the guild mages who are in his group, he was also a member since he was a child. Before joining the Fairy Tail guild, he was raised and trained by Ur.
Grelle Sutcliff (Kuroshitsuji)
Grelle is the first Grim Reaper Ciel has encountered in Black Butler. Before revealing his identity, he was posing as the butler of Angelina Dalles. The both of them worked together as Jack the Ripper. However, after she died and he was caught by his colleagues, he was suspended as a Grim Reaper. However, in current episodes, he is back to doing full-time work.
Ginji Amano (Get Backers)
Ginji is a former leader of a gang called “VOLTS.” When he was their leader, he was called the Lightning Emperor. However, now he is a recover for the GetBackers Recovery Service alongside Ban Mido.
Gen Shishio (Kekkaishi)
Gen is a Night Troop member and the Shishio Family’s youngest son. He was sent to Karasumori by Masamori to aid in a fight against Kokuboro but was later killed by Kaguro.

Gareki used to be a leader of a gang of thieves who used to steal from corrupt people. However, his whole world changed after he met Nai and got involved with the Circus.
Gin (Hotarubi no Mori e)
Gin is one of the many spirits in the forest. However, he developed a close friendship with a young girl named Hotaru. Hotaru met Gin when she was a child and had been visiting the spirit to play with him since their initial encounter. Gin ages a lot slower than a regular human. He disappears at the end of the movie because Hotaru accidentally touched him.
Greed (Full Metal Alchemist)
Greed is one of the homunculi created by Father. He is the embodiment of his creator’s desire. He is also called the Ultimate Shield, as he can use the carbon in his body to create a shield out of his skin. Greed loves power and luxury and strives to achieve a lavish lifestyle. However, unlike his siblings, he is shown to care for his subordinates and even his host.
Gou Matsuoka (Free!)
Gou is a member of the Swim club and acts as the team’s manager. She is Rin’s younger sister. Despite being a club member, Gou has no idea how to swim and simply enjoys helping the swim team improve. In addition, she is in love with muscles and is overly enthusiastic about them.
Gajeel Redfox (FairyTail)
Gajeel is a former Mage of the Phantom Lord but later joins the Fairy Tail Guild alongside Juvia. He is an Iron Dragon Slayer making him one of the three Dragon Slayer members to join the guild. When Fairy Tail temporarily disbanded, he joined the Magic Council along with Levi but quit the moment Fairy Tail reunited.
Gatomon (Digimon Adventure)
Gatomon is the Digimon partner of Kari Kamiya in Digimon Adventures. Unlike most Digimon, who stay in their rookie form while in the human world, Gatomon retains her champion form. Gatomon’s digiegg was separated from the other digieggs meant for the DigiDestined. She eventually found herself under Myotismon, who found her while she was looking for her partner.
Ginger (Sugar A Little Snow Fairy)
Ginger is one of the few adult Rain Fairies featured in Sugar A Little Snow Fairy. She is responsible for creating rain showers in the Muhlenberg area. As one of the adult fairies, a lot of the apprentice fairies look up to her, particularly Sugar, Salt, and Pepper. It is hinted that Ginger might have feelings for the Cloud Fairy Turmeric.
Gidget (Eureka Seven)
Gidget is one of the crew members of the Gekkostate, where she acts as the sensor and communications officer. She is often shown to be relaying tactical data to the rest of the crew and talking to Eureka.

Gakuho is the father of Gakushu Asano and the board chairman of Kunugigaoka Junior High School. For the first half of the series, Gakuho serves as the primary antagonist. However, after admitting defeat, he becomes a supporting character.
