Anime Characters that Start with S: Iconic names
Anime has been around for a long time and has been used to tell the stories of numerous characters. By now, it’s pretty clear that every letter of the alphabet has character names people will be familiar with. Letts like S have been especially common since they also exist in the Japanese alphabet.
1. Soma Yukihira (Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma)
Soma has always been passionate about serving great dishes due to his close relationship and friendly rivalry with his dad, Joichiro. Despite his young age, he is confident with his skills as a chef and would constantly challenge people to prove and improve his abilities.
2. Sabrina (Pokemon)
Sabrina is a character that appears in both the Pokemon anime and games. She is the Saffron City gym leader who specializes in psychic-type pokemon. Sabrina is shown to be emotionless, but she communicates her thoughts through a cheerful-looking doll representing their happy side.
3. Serena (Pokemon)
During his adventures in the Kalos regions, Serena was one of Ash’s traveling companions. She is a Pokemon Performer who aimed to be Kallos Queen during the XY series. However, after losing the competition, she travels to other regions to improve her performance.
4. Sosuke Aizen (Bleach)
Sousuke used to be a captain in the Soul Society. He was originally the captain of the 5th Division Gotei 13 but left with several Soul Society members who were loyal to him. Eventually, he was defeated by Ichigo when he waged war against the soul society. He was later sealed by Kisuke Urahara and imprisoned for crimes.
5. Sakura Kinomoto (Card Captor Sakura)
One of the more popular magical girls in anime history. Sakura is the perky protagonist of Clamp’s Card Captor Sakura. She is a ten-year-old elementary girl who becomes the master of the Clow cards. She also makes several other appearances in the Clamp universe, such as in xxxHolic and Tsubasa Chronicles.
6. Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop)
Spike is a bounty hunter aboard the Bebop. Before becoming a cowboy, he used to belong to a group called the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate but ultimately left the group. Upon leaving the group, he teamed up with a bounty hunter named Jet, and the two of them were the first crew members of the Bebop.
7. Sasuke Uchiha (Naruto)
Sasuke is one of the last surviving members of his clan. After graduating from ninja academy, he became a member of team 7 alongside Naruto and Sakura, being mentored by Kakashi. However, unsatisfied with his progress compared to his teammates, he defects from his village to acquire the strength to exact his revenge. However, by the end of Shippuden, Sasuke ultimately returns to Konoha to protect the village.
8. Sakura Haruno (Naruto)
Sakura is the female member of team 7 who ended up specializing in medical ninjutsu under the tutelage of one of the legendary Sannin Tsunade. Unlike her team members, Sakura grew up and enjoyed her childhood just as any child in Konoha should, and she eventually marries Sasuke in the new era.
9. Sarada Uchiha (Naruto)
Sarada is the daughter of Sarada and Sasuke. In the beginning, she was primarily raised by only Sakura, as Sasuke had several missions outside of the village while she was growing up. However, she eventually met her father in the new series. She also strives to become the next Hokage.

Shoko is the female lead of the anime movie, A Silent Voice. She is not completely deaf and can hear several pitches and tones but has difficulty making out words. Because of her disability, she considers herself useless and has low-self esteem.

Shoya is the leading male character in the anime movie A Silent Voice. He used to be the primary bully of Shoko during their elementary years but became the lone wolf after hurting her. When he hits high school, he seeks her out to ask for forgiveness and her friendship.
12. Setsuna F Seiei (Gundam 00)
Setsuna is the main character of Mobile Suit Gundam 00. He is one of the Gundam Meisters of the organization called Celestial Being. Before becoming a pilot, he was a child soldier brainwashed to kill his parents. During one skirmish, he was saved by a Gundam, which led him to view Gundams as saviors.

Saiki is the main character of his anime. He uses several psychic abilities to try to avoid troublesome situations. He is known for being highly responsible in school and the household. Even if he doesn’t like trouble, he would willingly put himself in a situation for the sake of others.

17. Sanae Furukawa (Clannad)
Sanae is Nagisa’s mother and Akio’s wife, and the family runs Furukawa Bread bakery to better care for their daughter Nagisa. In addition, she also tutors a good number of children in their side-business Furukawa Cram school. In the series’ second season, she plays a more prominent role where she acts as a voice of reason and advisor towards Nagisa’s and Tomoya’s relationship as a couple and family.
18. Shizuo Heiwajima (Durarara!)
Shizuo is often referred to as the strongest man in all of Ikebukuro. Before becoming Tom Tanaka’s bodyguard, he had difficulty maintaining a job due to his short temper and inhuman strength, which caused him to destroy property when triggered, usually by Izaya. He was a member of the Dollars at one point but eventually quit.

Seto Kaiba is a main character in the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise and is one of the main reasons Duel Monsters has impacted the world on such a large scale in other series. He and his brother Mokuba were originally orphans who got adopted into the Kaiba family, which he eventually grew to own and develop. He is the main rival of the series’ protagonist Yugi Moto.

The soul is a demon weapon born into a famous family of musicians. He joined the Death Weapon school when he discovered he was a demon scythe. Meister Academy, where he met and partnered up with the Meister Maka. By the end of the manga, he is named “Death’s Last Weapon,” as the school will no longer collect the witches’ souls.

Saga is the human protagonist of the anime A Little Snow Fairy Sugar. Before the start of the series, Saga lost her mother and began living with her grandmother Regina. She is responsible for her age and works part-time at a local coffee shop called Little Me.

Sugar is an apprentice snow fairy searching for a “twinkle” to complete her training and become a full-fledged fairy. Among the apprentice fairies, she is the more childish one and is also the most affectionate one. She is fond of waffles after Saga feeds her some.
26. Sanosuke Sagara (Rurouni Kenshin)
At the beginning of the series, Sanosuke is a Fight Merchant for hire named Zanza. However, he ended his days as a fight merchant after his duel with Kenshin, choosing to help the wanderer out on his missions. He becomes an important fighting member of Kenshin’s group in the anime and has helped him in several battles.
27. Sai Yamanaka (Naruto Shippuden)
Sai is an Anbu member of Team Kakashi that was added to the group to replace Sasuke Uchiha. As an Anbu, he is trained to mask his emotions. However, upon being added to the team, he slowly starts to learn about humans and emotions, allowing himself to develop some for himself. In the New Era, he married Ino, and they had a son named Inojin.

Saito is an old acquaintance and rival of Kenshin, a former Shinsengumi captain. Currently, he works as a special agent for the Meiji Government. He was first sent to Kenshin to see if the wanderer was strong enough to battle Shishio. He ultimately joins Kenshin’s team as they travel to face Shishio and his followers.
29. Saki Hanajima (Fruits Baskets)
Saki is a close friend of Tohru who is said to have psychic powers and can sense people’s “Waves.” However, other girls consider them scary and use this to scare people trying to harm Thoru for her friendship with Yuki Sohma. In the sequel, Saki is married and has a son named Rio Mosca.
30. Syaoran Li (Card Captor Sakura)
He was first introduced as Sakura’s rival to become the master of the Clow Cards. However, as the series progressed, he gave up becoming the master and decided to support Sakura as a friend and ally. Eventually, he falls in love with Sakura, and the two become a couple.
31. Sango (Inuyasha)
Sango is a female yokai taiji you from a village of demon slayers. She and her younger brother lived with their father, the head of the village. Her village was slaughtered when she was a teen, which Naraku claimed was the work of Inuyasha. She then proceeds to hunt down the canyon to avenge her family.
32. Sanji (One Piece)
Sanji is the onboard cook of the Straw Hat Pirates and the fifth member of its crew. He was a prince of the Germa Kingdom but was disowned by his family. He eventually became a sous chef under Zeff in the Baratie until he joined Luffy’s crew. Despite being a chef, he is also a skilled fighter and is among the top 3 fighters aboard the ship alongside Zoro and Luffy.
33. Sarah (Gundam Build Divers)
Sarah is an EL-Diver who can sense the feelings of the Gunpla in Gunpla Battle Nexus Online. She usually joins Riku in his Gunpla’s cockpit during battles or missions.
34. asori (Naruto Shippuden)
Sasori is one of the members of the Akatsuki who was originally partnered with Orochimaru but later got paired up with Deidara. He is the grandson of Chiyo and was raised by him after his parents were murdered. He is noted to be skillful enough to make puppets in the same image as a human. His skills made him create puppets of his parents, but he eventually lost interest in them because they were unable to give the same parental love his actual parents could.
35. Sesame (PreTear)
Sesame is a leafe Knight of Sound but later becomes Fenrir’s Knight of Darkness. As a Knight of Sound, he can control and manipulate sound. Also, when he merges with a PreTear, he becomes a Sonic Arrow weapon.
36. Scar (Full Metal Alchemist)
The scar is a nameless Ishvalan survivor of the Ishvalan Civil War who is hunting the State Alchemist for his belief in justice and revenge. However, he does not hate alchemy despite going out killing state alchemists as he willingly kept Mei alive along with other non-State Alchemists.
37. Sebastian Michaelis (Black Butler)
Sebastian is the demon butler contracted to Ciel Phantomhive. Ciel promised his soul to the demon once his mission was fulfilled. Since then, Sebastian has become Ciel’s loyal servant. The name “Sebastian” was given to him by his master Ciel who named him after the family’s previous dog.
38. Satsuki Kusakabe (My Neighbor Totoro)
Satsuki is the older sister of Mei and is one of the main protagonists of the anime film My Neighbor Totoro. Satsuki tries to act more mature for her age to care for her sister and not worry about her ill mother.
