Few genres deliver satisfaction quite like the heist story. The intricate planning, unexpected double-crosses, and the relentless ticking clock have fueled everything from classic capers to contemporary streaming sensations, keeping audiences eagerly returning for more. Apple TV is the latest to embrace this formula, and the first full trailer has just dropped.

The series, ’12 12 12′, features Anthony Mackie and Jamie Dornan, who also serves as executive producers. It is set to premiere globally on Friday, November 13. Apple TV revealed the trailer on October 13, following an initial sneak peek in August. This 8-episode drama showcases a disgraced FBI agent in a high-stakes game against an American career criminal, unfolding across various locations in Europe.

The newly released trailer, running approximately 2 minutes, highlights Mackie’s character as he outlines the essential rules for a successful heist to Dornan’s character. A standout line emphasizes that a bank robber who remains uncaught after 12 days is essentially free. This sets the stage for a tense duel between two men who share an unsettling understanding of one another.

The title ’12 12 12′ is more than just a catchy phrase. Each episode unfolds across three distinct timelines of the same heist: the 12 months of meticulous planning, the 12 hours of the actual robbery, and the 12 days that follow. This structure allows the narrative to shift between preparation, execution, and aftermath, promising plenty of unexpected twists.

At the heart of the story is a daring raid on a bank vault hidden beneath Zurich’s streets. Mackie portrays the FBI agent whose career has unraveled, while Dornan takes on the role of the thief he is pursuing. The official synopsis describes their conflict as a zero-sum game, and the trailer hints at personal stakes for both characters.

This series marks a reunion for Mackie and Dornan, who previously co-starred in the film ‘Synchronic’. It also brings Mackie back together with director Kari Skogland, known for her work on ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’. Skogland directs multiple episodes, including the pilot, and is an executive producer.

Creators Dudi Appleton and Jim Keeble serve as executive producers and have penned several episodes. Mackie and Dornan join them as executive producers, alongside David Ellison and Dana Goldberg. The series is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Anonymous Content.

With Mackie being an Emmy nominee and Dornan having received nominations for a Golden Globe and a Critics Choice Award, the show boasts a wealth of established talent. The project was initially announced in 2024, making its journey to the screen a lengthy one.

The ensemble cast includes Jack Kesy, Kali Reis, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Agathe Rousselle from ‘Titane’, Sallie Harmsen, and José Garcia. This blend of American and European actors complements a story that traverses borders, with the trailer showcasing stunning locations from grand European architecture to snowy skylines. This international aspect adds to the show’s allure.

Apple TV has also shared images of several cast members in character, hinting at the complex web of allies and adversaries involved in the heist. With so many characters, the series’ shifting timelines could keep viewers guessing about loyalties and intentions.

’12 12 12′ will premiere on Apple TV on November 13, debuting its first two episodes, followed by one new episode each Friday. The series finale is scheduled for Christmas Day, December 25. This weekly release strategy is designed to build anticipation and culminates in a festive finish.

Some fans humorously suggested that the show should have premiered on December 12 to align with its title. Nonetheless, the actual release schedule coincides with the end-of-year binge-watching season, when viewers are on the lookout for compelling content as the weather turns chilly.

What makes a heist drama compelling is the blend of intellect and intimacy. The planners must think several steps ahead, while the pursuer has to anticipate their moves. By placing two charismatic leads at opposite ends of this conflict, ’12 12 12′ taps into one of the most enduring sources of tension in storytelling.

If the trailer is any indication, the series seems to embrace a polished, high-stakes aesthetic, featuring cat-and-mouse sequences that could distinguish it from lighter heist comedies. Whether it becomes a hit will depend on the effectiveness of the three-timeline structure, but the premise certainly shows promise.
