‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Reveals New Promo Art Featuring Robert Downey Jr.’s Villain
Few casting moments in superhero history can compare to Robert Downey Jr.’s return to Marvel, this time donning a mask. The actor, who embodied Tony Stark for over a decade, was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024 as Victor von Doom, sparking endless discussions online. With the film’s release just weeks away, the studio is heavily promoting its new antagonist.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to hit theaters on December 18, having been delayed from its original May release. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film features an impressive cast that includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Tom Hiddleston, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and Paul Rudd. This film marks the first time the Avengers and the X-Men unite, paving the way for ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ in December 2027.
Marvel’s marketing strategy has been deliberate, starting in December 2025 with character-focused teasers and multiple trailers since then. Recently, a new piece of promotional art has generated excitement. The striking visual featuring the tagline “Doom Is Supreme” showcases Downey’s Doom in his iconic hooded mask against a rich green backdrop.

The image emphasizes Doom’s regal and commanding presence. His metal mask is prominent, and a Latverian tower looms behind the bold tagline. The green-and-silver color palette is unmistakable.
This is just one of several new high-definition visuals that have emerged. Other designs feature slogans like “Doom Has No Rivals,” “Doom Supreme,” and “Doctor Doom,” with the character depicted in a hooded green cloak across various designs. One image pairs the “Doom Is Supreme” tagline with official ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ branding.
The promotional campaign extends beyond a single image. A collection of 25 new posters showcases heroes such as Thor, Giant-Man, Human Torch, Black Panther, and Professor X, with Doom positioned at the center. One poster features Doom in a stoic pose with a raised fist, while another prominently displays “DOOM IS SUPREME” with the character in the middle.
Another design features Doom above Thor, Reed Richards, Yelena, and Gambit, under the phrase “Worlds Collide.” The final wave of posters embraces a propaganda-style aesthetic, including one that depicts Doom’s mask as a stained-glass mosaic in greens, golds, and oranges, suggesting a ruler who wishes to be viewed as a deity.
He used to be different.

This new artwork comes shortly after officially licensed Funko merchandise revealed a significant change. The collectible figures label Downey’s character as “Lord Doom” instead of “Doctor Doom.” The figures depict him in a green military-style uniform with gold detailing, replacing his traditional heavy metallic armor while retaining the iconic mask.
This subtle shift has sparked fan discussions. A title like “Lord” aligns with the persona of a ruler who demands obedience, while the uniform suggests a leader of a nation rather than a mad scientist. The marketing has also emphasized Latveria and Doom’s immense ego, hinting at a villain who sees himself as the rightful master of every world.
The slogan has already appeared beyond promotional art. Doctor Doom even took over an Argentine movie theater ahead of the film, showcasing the aggressive nature of the campaign. Featuring Downey’s Doom prominently on every poster reflects confidence in the casting choice.
There are also subtle hints hidden in Marvel’s other projects. A “Countdown to Doom” label spotted in Ultron’s room in ‘VisionQuest’ may be a nod to the film’s impending release. Whether intentional or not, it illustrates how deeply the villain is embedding himself in the franchise.
The film is reported to have a runtime of 165 minutes and will share its release date with ‘Dune: Messiah,’ setting the stage for a box office showdown dubbed “Dunesday.” While Marvel has kept the plot largely under wraps, it has confirmed that Doom is the primary antagonist and that the Fantastic Four are involved. Evans returns as Steve Rogers, adding another emotional layer for long-time fans.
With less than two months until release, the promotional campaign is likely to intensify. Fans can expect more trailers, TV spots, and artwork that reinforces Doom’s dominance. The studio clearly aims for audiences to enter theaters convinced of his unstoppable nature.
