Anya Taylor-Joy and Drew Starkey Star in New Trailer for Apple TV’s ‘Lucky’
Anya Taylor-Joy is making her return to television with a gripping new thriller, and the first teaser for ‘Lucky’ indicates she will be facing more than just dangerous criminals. This upcoming Apple TV+ series places the actress at the heart of a narrative filled with missing money, family secrets, betrayal, and a past that refuses to stay buried.
The newly released teaser trailer reveals that Taylor-Joy plays Lucky, a woman who believed she had escaped her troubled upbringing. However, she soon finds herself pulled back into the perilous world she fought so hard to leave behind.
In the series, Lucky is introduced as the daughter of John Armstrong, portrayed by Timothy Olyphant. Unlike most parents, John did not raise his daughter to follow a conventional path. Instead, he prepared her for a life steeped in crime. Although Lucky eventually distanced herself from that world, her attempts at a fresh start are short-lived.
The trailer shows that Lucky and her husband Cary, played by Drew Starkey, become embroiled in a risky scheme involving stolen mob money. This money reportedly belongs to Cary’s mother, Priscilla Matheson, played by Annette Bening. Unfortunately for Lucky, Priscilla is not just any mother-in-law; she is a powerful and feared mob leader.
Things quickly spiral out of control when Cary suddenly goes missing. The stolen money disappears as well, leaving Lucky caught in a perilous situation with no clear answers.
As depicted in the trailer, Priscilla suspects that Lucky knows more than she is letting on. When confronted about both the missing money and her missing husband, Lucky asserts she has no idea where either one is. Priscilla, however, is not convinced.
“That’s the wrong answer,” Priscilla warns her. This line makes it clear that Lucky is about to face serious repercussions, regardless of whether she is telling the truth.
However, the missing money is just part of the dilemma. The teaser also hints that someone from Lucky’s past has resurfaced. Old enemies and unresolved issues threaten everything she has built. This mysterious danger seems linked to the criminal life she thought she had left behind years ago.
As pressure mounts from all directions, Lucky realizes there may be only one way out. The trailer suggests she must undertake one final dangerous mission in hopes of closing this chapter of her life for good. Whether she succeeds remains the biggest question leading into the series.
The show is based on the bestselling novel ‘Lucky’ by Marissa Stapley. It was created by Jonathan Tropper, who also serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Cassie Pappas. Taylor-Joy is also among the executive producers.
Alongside Taylor-Joy, Starkey, Olyphant, and Bening, the cast features Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Clifton Collins Jr., Mo McRae, William Fichtner, Eric Lange, and Joey Graziadei.
The teaser hints at a fast-paced thriller filled with crime, family conflict, and survival. At its core is Lucky, a woman attempting to outrun her past while everyone around her seems intent on dragging her back into it.
‘Lucky’ premieres on Apple TV+ on July 15. The first two episodes will be available at launch, with new episodes released weekly through August 19.
