Apple TV has successfully established ‘Silo’ as one of streaming’s most dependable sci-fi hits, transforming Hugh Howey’s underground dystopia into must-watch content across several seasons. As the series approaches its confirmed conclusion, fans are left wondering if this truly marks the end of Howey’s enigmatic, secret-filled world.

This uncertainty has intensified in recent months, especially with production now complete and the countdown to the show’s finale officially begun. Streaming platforms typically do not abandon a successful franchise without at least considering ways to extend its life.

Recently, a report has emerged suggesting that Apple may already be taking steps to do just that. Insider Sigmund Judge claims that ‘Silo’s’ upcoming fourth and final season will be succeeded by an expansion or spinoff project at Apple TV, which is reportedly set to enter pre-production later this year.

Judge asserts that the new project will directly connect to Howey’s eagerly awaited Silo 40 book trilogy, a series of novels set to release next summer that delves into one of the most enigmatic underground structures in the author’s vast universe. If true, this would indicate that Apple is pursuing a screen adaptation ahead of the source material’s availability.

Adding credibility to this claim, Judge has pointed to tangible evidence: the primary sets used throughout the series have reportedly remained intact since filming for Season 4 concluded in March, nearly six months ago. Typically, studios dismantle expensive sets once a production wraps, so their continued presence suggests Apple may have plans to revisit that location.

Judge has also mentioned that hiring for the supposed upcoming project has already commenced, adding another layer of detail to a report that remains unverified by Apple. The streaming service has yet to make any official announcement regarding a spinoff, maintaining that ‘Silo’ will conclude with Season 4.

Complicating matters, Howey has directly refuted the rumor. In response to Judge’s original post on Threads, the author stated, “Yo, this is news to me. So probably not true,” casting doubt on the claim from the person who would presumably know if a new project linked to his unpublished trilogy was already underway.

In response to Howey’s denial, Judge remained firm, stating, “I appreciate you wanting to keep a surprise,” while expressing admiration for the author’s work. This exchange has left fans analyzing the back-and-forth for hints, uncertain whether Howey’s denial reflects genuine surprise or a strategic effort to safeguard an announcement still in development.

A potential ‘Silo’ spinoff would align perfectly with Apple TV’s broader strategy of enhancing its science-fiction offerings, following similar initiatives with ‘Star City’ within the ‘For All Mankind’ universe and another project linked to the ‘Monarch’ franchise. Given ‘Silo’s’ significance to Apple’s original programming lineup, extending the story beyond its intended conclusion would hardly be a surprising business move.

For now, the prospect of a spinoff remains speculative, based on insider reports, existing sets, and a public denial that hasn’t entirely closed the door on the idea. Whether Apple will confirm anything official likely hinges on the development progress in the coming months, especially as Howey’s new trilogy approaches publication.

With Season 4 still on the horizon and a potential expansion already stirring excitement, ‘Silo’ fans have ample opportunity to speculate before this chapter of the story finally concludes.
