The acclaimed sci-fi series Severance has officially found a formidable competitor on its own platform. Viewers are flocking to Pluribus, a new drama that has quickly dominated conversations surrounding Apple TV+.

Following a massive premiere, the show has reportedly become the most-watched series in the history of the streaming service. This news comes just after the release of the seventh episode, with data suggesting it has outperformed every previous show on the platform.

Although the exact metrics for these viewership numbers haven’t been fully detailed, the cumulative figures were strong enough to warrant a public celebration from the studio. It is believed that the show’s performance has eclipsed the viewership of any single season of other popular series on the service.

The project marks a significant reunion for creator Vince Gilligan and actress Rhea Seehorn, who previously worked together on Better Call Saul. Gilligan, also known for creating Breaking Bad, has crafted a story that brings a unique twist to the genre.

The plot revolves around a strange phenomenon where a mysterious virus infects the world with a wave of perfect happiness. Seehorn stars as Carol Sturka, the only person immune to this euphoria, who fights to uncover the truth behind the bliss.

Despite the record-breaking numbers, opinions on the show have been divided. While professional critics have given it a stellar 98% approval rating, the audience score is significantly lower at 68%.

The primary complaint among viewers concerns the show’s deliberate and slow pacing. However, the viewership statistics indicate that the audience remains hooked as the nine-episode season approaches its conclusion.

Due to this immediate success, the series was quickly renewed for a second season. Unfortunately for fans, the wait will be long, with new episodes not expected to premiere until December 2027.

Gilligan has suggested that the story could unfold over four seasons, though he admits his plans often expand during production. With a reported budget of $15 million per episode, the network is clearly investing heavily in its future.
