Marvel’s promotional campaign for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has been shrouded in intrigue for months, and it shows no signs of slowing down. The latest buzz centers around the masked magic users alongside Doctor Doom, with new reports emerging from California to southern Spain.

The film is set to hit US theaters on December 18, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with Robert Downey Jr. portraying Victor von Doom. The storyline picks up 14 months after ‘Thunderbolts’ and features heroes from three universes battling Doom amidst a collapsing multiverse.

The marketing efforts have been as expansive as the cast. Trailers were unveiled at CinemaCon in April and Comic-Con in July, with exclusive footage also shown during the ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Encore on September 25.

Recently, a report surfaced indicating that the promotional campaign is now heading to Spain. On October 3, Avengers Updates shared that a new promo is being filmed featuring the Latverian Witches and Doombots for the film. The post included an 18-second vertical clip from an account named “em | doomsday era,” showcasing a stone amphitheater illuminated in vivid green light, with a glowing emblem on the wall above.

The clip features a Spanish headline questioning whether Doctor Doom is at Comic Con Málaga, along with a subtitle where a speaker hesitates to provide details. Marvel has yet to confirm the shoot, and the coverage reviewed for this article does not mention Doombots in relation to the event, so these details should be treated as unverified for now.

The Málaga connection is not entirely unfounded. San Diego Comic-Con Málaga has been distributing an international poster featuring Downey’s Doom on a staircase before his castle, flanked by three masked Latverian Witches dressed in green, orange, and purple. Dork emphasized that this is a physical convention item rather than an official digital release from Marvel Studios.

Marvel’s presence at the event has embraced a similar aesthetic. The promotional booth showcases a large Avengers “A” logo on stone, glowing green panels, a Thor’s hammer prop, and Captain America’s shield embedded in a textured wall. This green glow aligns with the lighting seen in the new clip.

The identity of the witches has been a topic of speculation since San Diego. Marvel displayed a rotating costume exhibit there, featuring green-and-gold robes and a silver mask on preview night, a gold-and-yellow version on day two, and a deep purple look on day three. By the final day, the display was replaced with a towering statue of Doctor Doom.

Fans have filled the void with theories. Names mentioned include Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, Charlize Theron’s Clea, and Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie, although Olsen publicly denied her involvement in March 2025. Spanish outlet 3DJuegos pointed out that red, a color associated with Wanda’s chaos magic, was absent from Marvel’s palette, leading to speculation about a hidden fourth witch.

One rumor, attributed to scooper James Mack, suggests that only one witch will reveal herself, disguised as Peggy Carter. This claim remains unverified, and the Russo brothers have indicated that the film will feature characters and actors that have not been announced.

Meanwhile, the footage presented in Hall H at Comic-Con painted a menacing picture of Doom. Approximately two minutes of footage depicted him on his throne addressing a gathering of heroes and mutants, including Shang-Chi, Gambit, the Thunderbolts, Thor, Magneto, Professor X, and Steve Rogers. Thor attacks him, and Doom effortlessly blocks the blow with two fingers before sending the god of thunder flying backward.

The same footage concluded with Doom resurrecting broken Sentinels, while Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm narrates that Victor was once kind before losing everything he loved. This tragic framing adds an intriguing layer to the roles of the Latverian Witches and any Doombots as part of Doom’s expanding empire.

Principal photography for the film took place from April 28 to September 19 of last year, with locations including Pinewood Studios, Bahrain, and Windsor Great Park. If the report from Spain holds true, it would signify a separate promotional shoot rather than a return to the main production.
