D23 has established itself as the venue where Marvel Studios unveils its most significant surprises, and this year’s Ultimate Fan Event in Anaheim was no different. Amidst panels, costume reveals, and a showroom filled with Multiverse Saga artifacts, one presentation stood out for fans still reeling from the summer’s sneak peek at ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.

The film has been gaining traction for months, especially after the release of four character-focused teasers last December and a full trailer that dropped just weeks ago. That earlier footage offered only a brief glimpse of Robert Downey Jr. in his new role as Victor von Doom, leaving fans eager for more.

That anticipation was finally satisfied on Friday night when Marvel Studios showcased a new “Special Look” at ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ during Disney’s Entertainment Showcase, featuring Downey’s Doctor Doom prominently for the first time. The nearly two-and-a-half-minute clip presents the character’s first substantial dialogue, culminating in the now-famous line: “Hell answers to me. For I am Doom.”

The footage not only showcases Doom’s intimidating presence but also delves into his tragic backstory. Narration portrays Victor as the most intelligent person in any room, a man who “used to be kind” until he lost everything he cherished, setting the stage for his transformation into a villain ahead of his confrontations with Thor, the X-Men, and Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards.

Kevin Feige introduced the footage onstage alongside Downey, Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell, who are reprising their roles as Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter. The duo playfully hinted at their characters’ fates after ‘Avengers: Endgame’ left them with a seemingly happy ending.

Atwell quipped that “there’s nothing this crowd loves more than a happy ever after,” while Evans followed with a knowing “we should’ve known better,” as the actors shared during the panel. This exchange subtly suggests that Steve and Peggy’s storyline may not be as resolved as fans had hoped.

The surprises continued as Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds made a surprise appearance via video message, humorously advocating for Wolverine and Deadpool to be included in the film, though neither actor confirmed any details about their participation.

In addition to the trailer, D23 attendees were treated to a first look at a brand-new Doctor Doom costume on the show floor, featuring a more understated, Latverian-inspired design that differs from the battle-armor look showcased at Comic-Con in July. Fans quickly speculated that this alternate appearance could indicate Doom’s dual role in the narrative, potentially starting as an ally before ultimately betraying the heroes.

Social media reactions have been intense, with fans analyzing every detail of Doom’s new suit and dissecting the “Hell answers to me” line for hints about the character’s journey. The costume reveal alone ignited a flurry of comparisons to Doom’s classic comic book appearance, with many declaring it the most comic-accurate interpretation of the villain to date.

Marvel also seized the opportunity to boost ticket sales. General admission tickets for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ officially went on sale following the D23 reveal, expanding beyond the exclusive Infinity Vision premium format screenings that saw impressive pre-sale numbers back in July.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the masterminds behind ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ unites heroes from the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four for what is being promoted as the beginning of the end for the Multiverse Saga. The film boasts an incredible ensemble cast, including Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Letitia Wright, and many more familiar faces from across the franchise.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to hit theaters on December 18, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ scheduled to conclude Doom’s saga the following year.
