‘Avengers: Endgame’ Encore Release Date and Box Office Projections
Marvel Studios has been building excitement throughout 2026 for the conclusion of its Multiverse Saga, and this journey is taking a nostalgic turn. Instead of diving straight into new adventures, the studio is inviting fans back to the end of the Infinity Saga, using nostalgia to bridge the gap to future projects.
This nostalgic trip is marked by the arrival of ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore,’ the newly titled theatrical rerelease of the 2019 blockbuster. The film is set to hit theaters on September 25, just ahead of the sequels ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ Director Joe Russo has described this rerelease as “critically important” in the lead-up to ‘Doomsday.’
Industry tracking from MovieHub suggests that ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ could open with a domestic box office between $20 million and $28 million during its first weekend. While this is significantly lower than the original film’s record-setting $350 million domestic debut in 2019, it still represents a solid performance for a six-year-old rerelease competing against new films.
Avatar currently holds the worldwide box office record with approximately $2.92 billion, while Avengers: Endgame stands at around $2.79–$2.80 billion, creating a gap of about $120–130 million. ‘Endgame’ briefly surpassed Avatar in 2019 after a limited re-release with bonus footage, but Avatar reclaimed the top spot through subsequent re-releases and international earnings.
Now, with Endgame Encore, Marvel has another opportunity to close this gap. The rerelease is expected to open modestly at $20–28 million domestically, suggesting it will need a strong global performance, especially in China, to bridge the remaining $120 million-plus. Marvel has positioned this rerelease as a chance to reclaim the box office record, with Kevin Feige acknowledging the ongoing rivalry. While it is mathematically possible, Endgame would require an exceptionally strong performance to surpass Avatar, which could also respond with another re-release.
The rerelease will not simply be a replay of the original 2019 cut. The Encore edition will feature new footage, a custom introduction, and a new post-credits scene. It has also received Disney’s Infinity Vision certification for premium large-format theaters, indicating which venues provide the most immersive experiences. According to AMC’s official listing, the rerelease will run three hours and five minutes, which is four minutes longer than the original theatrical cut.
This additional footage is not just filler; reports suggest it will delve into the multiversal consequences of the original time heist that concluded the first eleven years of the MCU, giving dedicated fans a reason to return to theaters beyond simply rewatching a film many already own.

However, access to this new material comes with a catch. The exclusive footage, including the special end tag, is reportedly limited to IMAX and Infinity Vision certified screens. While standard theatrical showings will include the new introduction and additional footage, audiences hoping for the complete experience will need to seek out a premium format screening.
This exclusivity also serves a dual purpose for Disney’s marketing strategy. Beyond reintroducing ‘Endgame’ to audiences before ‘Doomsday’ arrives in December, the rerelease acts as a launchpad for Infinity Vision, Disney’s new premium large-format theatrical standard designed to compete with IMAX and Dolby Cinema. Theaters must be certified to offer this format, providing Disney with an incentive to drive ticket sales toward its own premium experience.
With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ set to premiere on December 18, the Encore rerelease gives Marvel about twelve weeks to reignite excitement for the franchise’s next chapter while also testing the commercial viability of its new theatrical format. Given the dedicated fan base for a film as cherished as ‘Endgame,’ even a modest opening weekend in the $20 to $28 million range would be a significant win for a movie that has been available for streaming and purchase for years.
